THE MALTA SOUVENIR BUS – L-ISKAFI

The Malta souvenir bus is a traditional Maltese bus which used to operate in the Public transport before Arriva took over the Public Transport in Malta on 3rd July 2011. Malta bus Registration No. 5294 was previously registered as FBY 798. The AEC Reliance bus has been built in Malta back in 1964 whose chassis has been imported from England. The body has been tailored and customized by Mr. Michael Barbara Bodybuilder situated in Luqa, in the South of Malta. At the time the bus was one of the fastest vehicles on the Maltese roads and for this reason this bus was nicknamed as “L-Iskafi” which originated from the word “Skiff” meaning a high performance sailing boat. The bus is owned by Mr. Andrew Abela since 1981, a business man who has started his business in the Maltese transport industry with the acquisition of this bus and continued to expand his operations as at present.

The unique appearance of the Maltese buses (Xarabank) makes them a major tourist attraction which is found nowhere else in the world. l-Iskafi has been renovated to become a souvenir in itself, whilst keeping it in its original state. Tourists are invited to board the much loved Malta bus and acquire a Maltese souvenir whilst capturing the unique characteristics of the bus.
