1. Describe the most difficult moment during the past 5 years ?

The most difficult moment was when we heard that Billy Aung Law, a dear friend, and brother of our loyal producer and student, was deadly hit by an airstrike in the Mindat area. He was still young and had a big dream: to grow coffee in Chin State and elevate the lives of the next income generation.

2. Did you ever fear while engaging with the Chin people, a much persecuted minority in Myanmar?

As a former Swiss diplomat, I am used to facilitating between different conflict parties. I am free from fear and always stand with the people who are oppressed, or less privileged in the society. The Chin people have been persecuted for decades by the Bamar majority. What if a simple cup of coffee could contribute to peace?

3. What is the reason to continue such a Hercule task and purchase coffee from war-torn regions?

I am often inspired by the strengths of the farmers. Most of them belong to the generation Z. They had experienced a short time of opening (2015-2019) and can’t accept a return to isolation. Both of us, farmer and buyer, student and teacher, dream of Chin State as a ' Savage dream coffee land' . Moreover, both of us love uncompromised freedom. Freedom in cultivation, freedom in trade, freedom in association. In contrast to the majority of merchants, I did never claim exclusivity on the sales to us. I want our partners to feel free in their choice.

4. What was the most touching moment during your work with the Chin farmers?

I guess, the most touching moment was the announcement of a new born baby of our farmer friend last month. He is a young father of twin girls, and a boy. As a representative of an indigenous Chin tribe he is ensuring that his tribe will continue to exist.

5. What is your wish for the Chin Coffee community?

I wish that peace is restored in Myanmar, but especially in Chin State and dream of returning to the Chin coffee hills.

Today marks one year since Myanmar was hit by a desastrous earthquake and aftershakes. Nat Coffee had raised funds, donated 5000.- USD to monasteries in Sagaing and Amapura, distributed shelter and water to kids in Mandalay, and shared the happenings in interviews with the Swiss radio.

In the face of the unimaginable hardship, during the ongoing civil war, Burmese slowly rebuilt part of Mandalay City, whilst Sagaing is still much in ruins and roads damaged.

The 'winner' of the desaster were real estate brokers who accessed the land of ruins illegally and built cheap 'made in China' - homes, with low quality material that look like ruins after one year of construction. Uncountable donations ended in corruption.

Much of the cultural heritage has disappeared from Mandalay and Sagaing. The cities haven't yet surged from the ashes. 🐦‍🔥

We will continue to stand with the people in Myanmar to defend basic rights, basic needs, freedom and reconstruction.

Feel free to contact us for further information or donations.

Today, I am glad to become member of the "Society Switzerland - Bhutan". 🇧🇹🇨🇭

In September/ October 2025 we started exploring the Bhutan Kingdom 👑 for innovative coffee cultivation. Together with the farmers we deepened the dialogue about the choice of new coffee varieties turning first milestones into collaborations, while roasting coffee during the past 5 months and sharing our feedback from as well as Nat Coffee and J. David Waldman. We all agree: the mindful cup experience has no precedent. Bhutan, and Bhutan coffee is all and beyond the expected! 👌❤️

Thank you Claudio Zingg for organizing the General Assembly and hosting interesting speakers who worked in Bhutan with His Majesty and the people.

For almost 10 years the information about the Myanmar coffee sector are undermined by the association. The newspaper article states the same number of 10.000 metric tons for 10 years. How come there was no change in a decade whilst being said that the extension of coffee is progressing?

It seems the collection has stopped since 2021. But not stopped have the funds via Thailand to the war-torn nation.

Investors from China, Indonesia, Japan and the Republic of Korea showed growing interest in the Myanmar coffee production sector, and they are closely

Welcome to Bhutan 🇧🇹 ! We are trialing something exciting! Mongar is located at 1600 meters above sealevel and started growing coffee in 2023.
Surrounded by alpine forests ( 70% of the surface), a group of farmers started picking coffee, both robusta and arabica this year.

Mongar gewog (gewog - means state), was built sometime between 1701 and 1707 by Drupthob Kuenzang Chophel, a disciple of the 9th abbot of Bhutan, Je Khenpo Shakya Rinchen.

Mongar is noted for its lemon grass, a plant that can be used to produce an essential oil.

At Nat Coffee, we are thrilled to kick off a collaboration with the Mongar Coffee Group • and will be sharing with you unbelievable stories.

Say hi by msg to be updated about the new coffee origin and royal kingdom Bhutan 🇧🇹👑!
