Getting a sewing machine to sew home decor like curtains seams like a good idea. Even for a mom like you without any sewing experience. While sewing curtain might seen a simple and quick sewing project, I realised it requires knowledge and skill to finish the project.

Let me tell you, that sewing voile curtain for the very first time wasn’t easy. The slippery fabric tested me, and mistakes felt frustrating. But with each stitch, I grew more confident. And in the end of the day I’m proud of taking the challenge and sewing 10 curtains in two days. Scroll through the post and learn my lessons.

This Independence Day dress for my little one is made from beautiful remnant fabric. The deep Bordeaux color was chosen to honor the Latvian flag. I wanted this dress to be more than just a dress, so I added a delicate lace trim to the hem, giving it that final, patriotic touch.
But still, I felt like something was missing. And then it came to me—the little frills on the shoulders. Oh, how they transform this simple dress into something so sweet and joyful, just like the girl who will wear it.
This is the perfect Independence Day dress I’ve imagined for my daughter—the one and only, sewn by my hands, with all the love a mother can give. Proud to be her mom. Proud to be Latvian. And so incredibly thankful to God for the freedom and independence we enjoy in this beautiful land.
On this 18th of November, as we celebrate Latvia’s independence, I am reminded of God’s blessing, our strength, our history, and the precious gift of liberty. May our beloved Latvia always prosper. Dievs, svētī Latviju!
