What stops you from casting on?
There are times when we want something, dream about it, and take no action, hoping the circumstances change in our favor. I get into this place every now and then, however, in recent years I've started asking myself "So what will happen if I fail?" Because this is my biggest trouble maker though - fear of not succeeding. It may be something else that holds you back from casting on your knitting project or anything else: maybe the time it will take, lack of knowledge, money, or courage?
When I explore my fear of failure it usually deflates like a balloon. Once I inspect it I see it all depends on what I call a success: a fun afternoon trying something new? making myself a small item that I don't need to show anyone? meditating with a repetitive knit just to practice the new stitch type? All of these are great success definitions, that can be achieved without knowledge, hours of time, or even much money, and are almost impossible to fail. How can you fail to have fun, huh?
As long as we can be moderate with expectations for ourselves in the very beginning, our confidence will grow in the process, and what has started as a lovely coffee break with a tiny knit, may turn you into your own sweater maker.
So again, what stops you from casting on? Do you still believe the reason?
