Uncle Kamal!
One random encounter one night at the race course parking lot and uncle Kamal is now one of our monthly beneficiaries!
Uncle Kamal might be a little slower than most of us in catching on but the oranges you see in his hand is the attempt of a man who has had no access to special education and is just trying to make a living! He travels from Piliyandala in the bus everyday just to take home a hundred rupees or so.
The Conscious Collective, thanks to our donors has been blessed with the opportunity to be able to fund his bedridden ailing mothers medical expenses monthly.
We’re hoping to get a bank account up and running for uncle Kamal so donors can deposit directly into his account.

“I am exhausted. People are constantly fighting with us for just a 50/= parking fine. We’re only trying to make a living.”
Aunty Kanthi, much like many other women we’ve met on our rounds supports her little grandchildren inspite of her age.
Her daily stipend is barely enough to cover the family’s rent, bills and groceries. Yet, here she is daily with no other option.
We’re grateful that we found ourselves in a position to relieve her financial burden in the short term at the least.
If you are looking to support a wonderful grandmother, please get in touch with us so we can link you directly with her.

Hi everyone! We hope all of you are keeping safe!
We have an urgent appeal for one of our projects!

Sumitra who has been working as a house maid for the last 17 years had to experience her entire house go up in flames as a result of an electrical shorting last August. It’s been a year and with the kind generosity of the family she works for and their friends she was fortunate to begin constructing her house from ground up. However, with the pandemic and the the cost of materials and labor there has been a delay.
We are here making a humble plea to help her out in any possible manner. It can be monetary or household items that will help her to make her home complete.

A little backstory to two of our favorite beneficiaries so far!

Aunty Anusha ✨
She’s had a not so great couple of years having had to divorce her husband due to domestic violence and raise two kids on her own. For awhile now she has been working as help for a daily stipend. It is only understandable that the fear of corona has drastically reduced the possibility of anyone willing to offer her any work. She is single handedly raising her 14 year old daughter and is looking to earn an honest living. If you’re looking for help around the house please don’t hesitate to drop us a DM so we can help you get in touch with her directly.

Aunty Padmini ✨
Unlike her forever work pal, Aunty Padmini has no family to turn to during these troubling times. She too is looking for genuine work if anyone is willing to help her. The past few months have been more of a struggle and she’s facing the possibility of having to leave her rented home, having not had the income coming in to pay rent.

Both these lovely ladies are looking for honest work and are willing to travel within Colombo.
Please do reach out to us if you’d wish to help them monetarily. We’d be happy to pass on their bank details and contact numbers.

We now have to claim a country and a world, struggling with making ends meet (even more than usual) and so, we feel that our brand needs to more straightforwardly reflect our common goal to assist the community, give back and do whatever we can to make people’s lives better.

Therefore, ThriftNet becomes the Conscious Collective, in an effort to be more transparent and upfront about our objectives as a group. We will continue to be and build up on being a platform to connect donors and recipients, aimed at charity work, promoting social responsibility. We’ll also continue to sell thrift clothes and donate all proceeds to charity, but our main focus will be on finding funds and securing donors for those in need.

We are excited to bring to you our new name, new identity and want to bring you along with us!

Thank you for supporting ThriftNet; we hope you’ll support the Conscious Collective just the same.
