Join us for the launch of the second updated edition of Panoramic Beirut by Antoine Atallah, on Saturday May 11, 2024, starting 11AM, including a talk by the author at 5:30PM, at Jacaranda, in Mar Mikhael.
In Panoramic Beirut, architect, urban planner and activist Antoine Atallah tells the story of Beirut through successive panoramic images taken from its historical center in 1870, 1910, and 1952, annotated with the places that made the city during these different periods, followed by a representation of a "Ghost Town" that starkly illustrates all that was lost during and after the civil war. This second edition ends with a map that traces how Beirut's city center was temporarily reconfigured during the 17 October revolution in 2019, as well as revised informative texts in 3 languages accompanying all documents.
"It describes the successive periods of a capital in perpetual transformation, driven by changing cultural, social, economic, and (geo)-political factors."
