How can a soaptray be made of wood?

Historically, wooden soaptrays have been a thing. The key to make it resistant to moisture was selecting the appropriate type of wood species, and making sure to coat the item with some sort of varnish or paint surely helps to avoid direct contact of the wood itself with the water and other substances present on the soap.

In order to make our soaptrays resistant to moisture, however, we are not using lacquer or any other sort of coating. Unlike natural wood, CXP goods have a smooth surface. That difference, in itself, explains why it is harder for water to get โ€œstuckโ€ in the material and become a breeding ground for bacteria and mold. But to take things a step further, we have designed our tray with features to help prevent water puddling under the soap bar.

- The concave shape with a lower central area leading to a hole helps drain most of the water content that comes with the soap bar when you rest it on the tray.
- The two raised bars close to the center make sure that your soap is elevated, allowing for the water to actually get drained and the soap to dry faster.

So far we have covered CXPโ€™s smoothness and the trayโ€™s design. Now, what can you do to make sure the tray lasts for a long time?

Open your bathroom windows (and door) to let steam out, if you love to take hot showers. If your bathroom is constantly moist, it can harbor bacteria and mold - which is harmful not only for your dear tray but a health hazard.

๐Ÿ. ๐‚๐ฅ๐ž๐š๐ง ๐ซ๐ž๐ ๐ฎ๐ฅ๐š๐ซ๐ฅ๐ฒ!
Itโ€™s always a good idea to clean your tray after each soap bar you use. It prevents buildup from soap matter, which is surely more moist than CXP.

Our kitchen collection got some new friends!

We are proud to announce the release of our first plate, to match our family of mugs, cups and many other items.

This soft, tall-border plate has the perfect size for a snack or a piece of your favorite cake. It comes in a set of three plates, in different colors. The two sets are:

modern colors: cotton ivory, pastel pink and light gray

natural colors: caramel brown, natural beige and maple red

You can pick which set matches your kitchen or coffee shop aesthetic better, and if you are buying in bulk itโ€™s even possible to make it customised with your own brand. ;)

To begin our sustainable talk, letโ€™s dive into CXPโ€™s main material: wood powder.

Wood powder is obtained as a byproduct in lots of activities that deal with forestry. You can turn pieces of raw wood into wood powder by milling them, or you can process some discards from activities like furniture-making to get some wood dust.

Wood in itself is an evergreen material, it is renewable and easy to use responsibly. It simply feels right to be our #1 ingredient - and spoiler alert: other reasons will be covered soon, in future episodes of Sustainable Talk!

One of the basic rules for responsible use of wood is planting new trees to make up for the ones being harvested. Granted, we want to keep forests healthy, so this is a must. Softwood trees are a popular choice of tree species to be planted and harvested, due to their ability to grow quickly. That means a relatively fast production cycle, keeping customers happy and forests on balance.

Whenever possible to replace plastic items for CXP ones, thatโ€™s a great thing to do. Plastic, although not being made from dinosaurs, needs unrenewable sources to be engineered into reality. It is true that engineered materials have special properties and are truly needed in some instances, but for most everyday applications a โ€œgood enoughโ€ material is all we need to live comfortably while protecting our planet.

It is with great enthusiam that we announce that our Sodam Tumbler is up for funding on Wadiz! Dongnam Realize was awarded with the bagde by the team!

It is really rewarding to see that our wood items are being recognized by multiple entities as the and non-toxic, and products that they are!

Starting on May 20th, at 11:00AM Korean Standard Time (KST), the funding will be open to the public. Some early bird supporters will also receive our wood cutlery set as a gift and an incentive to kickstart their journey (or keep the momentum going!).
