TRIBUTE TO A GIFTED LITERARY GIANT
“I don’t want to die without any scars.”
— Chuck Palahniuk
This quote by the American prolific author perfectly fits in with the life and times of one Henry Ole Kulet. The unlikeliest author of books.Someone who went ahead to be awarded three-time as the winner of the prestigious Jomo Kenyatta Prize for Literature.
When the cruel hand of death finally caught up with him, Henry Ole Kulet was 75.
After the formative schooling he joined Egerton College and studied farm management as advised by the white settlers who must have not seen much in a boy born of a pastoralist father. It can be concluded they needed to modernise his herding skills.
The literary giant excelled in his profession with which he got promoted tending the farms. However, unlike his contemporaries who stay long into retirement, Kulet quit his progressing profession in agriculture in 1987 and shortly after wrote several books including high school set book, Blossoms of the Savannah.
Writing is a tedious engagement only known to authors of books. The passion for writing saw Ole Kulet write nine books including Blossoms of the Savannah and which was awarded the Jomo Kenyatta Prize for Literature thrice.
While the dark cloud of mourning hangs over Kenya's literary world over his death,Henry ole Kulet literary works has and will continue inspiring generations to come.He has died with footprints in the sand of Kenyan literary heavyweights.
