TRIBUTE TO A GIFTED LITERARY GIANT
“I don’t want to die without any scars.”
— Chuck Palahniuk
This quote by the American prolific author perfectly fits in with the life and times of one Henry Ole Kulet. The unlikeliest author of books.Someone who went ahead to be awarded three-time as the winner of the prestigious Jomo Kenyatta Prize for Literature.
When the cruel hand of death finally caught up with him, Henry Ole Kulet was 75.
After the formative schooling he joined Egerton College and studied farm management as advised by the white settlers who must have not seen much in a boy born of a pastoralist father. It can be concluded they needed to modernise his herding skills.
The literary giant excelled in his profession with which he got promoted tending the farms. However, unlike his contemporaries who stay long into retirement, Kulet quit his progressing profession in agriculture in 1987 and shortly after wrote several books including high school set book, Blossoms of the Savannah.
Writing is a tedious engagement only known to authors of books. The passion for writing saw Ole Kulet write nine books including Blossoms of the Savannah and which was awarded the Jomo Kenyatta Prize for Literature thrice.
While the dark cloud of mourning hangs over Kenya's literary world over his death,Henry ole Kulet literary works has and will continue inspiring generations to come.He has died with footprints in the sand of Kenyan literary heavyweights.

The Greatness Syndrome, by Pepe Minambo

Each one of us is born into this world with a syndrome of greatness, in lay man's language it means, right from birth every child is LICENCED by God to become GREAT in this life; if that is the case why is GREATNESS so SCARCE in our school communities?

Why is it most of the time in a group of
hundreds or thousands of students and pupils
only a handful stand out with outstanding performance? The answer is very simple: In a
school, every student's greatness is limited by
four things: The choices he/she makes on daily basis, the knowledge in his/her mind, the
strength of his/her character and the inspiration upon which he/she is building his/her life.

The key message in this book is straightforward: 'It is not enough to be good
when you have the ability to be the best, it is not enough to be very good when you have the
ability to be GREAT".

This book is for those who feel frustrated and dissatisfied with their current performance and
deep down their heart and mind believe that
they belong to a higher class of grades but
wonder how to get there.

This book is your license to greatness, get into
the driver's seat, make a U-TURN and begin
your journey to greatness

Biblical Theology of Poverty by Prof. Robert Langat
Poverty, as experienced by human beings, was not God's intention. Human beings created poverty for themselves. At the heart of the problem of povertry are human systems
which ignore, mistreat and exploit the human being who was created in the image of God. When people are impoverished and distressed, strife and conflict are bound to occur in the society and country.

This book offers an Old and New Testament perspective on poverty. The central message in the book is that God is concerned about the poor and that each of us must play Our role to eradicate poverty

About the author
Born in Kericho, Prot. Lang'at is an accomplished theologian who has published articles in the Evangelical Review of Theology Journal. He has also written book reviews and
presented papers in various forums.

He holds a Ph.D. in Religion and Social Change from the University of Denver and Illiff School of Theology.

Joshua
Experiencing God's Faithfulness in Life's Battles

This book is available in English, Kiswahili and Kalenjin languages

God called Joshua to lead the Israelites into the land He had promised his people hundreds of years earlier. It was a daunting task, and there were many obstacles facing them from their enemies on the outside, and from issues in their midst.

Through the exciting stories in the Book of Joshua, Joshua learned to trust God for courage and wisdom in leadership as he faced each challenge. The Israelites had to hold onto great faith and obey the Lord at all times for success and victory.

God in His plan and will, enabled Joshua to find favor in His eyes, in the eyes of the Israelites and the surrounding nations, therefore God became known and was
glorified by all.

Our prayer and hope is that the promises of God and the evidence of God's faithfulness to His people in the Book of Joshua encourage you in life's battles which you face today and in the times to come.

Be strong and courageous. Do not be terrified; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go. Joshua 1:9

Mine Boy by Abrahams
EAEP

The book’s main character, Xuma, is a man in transition. He leaves his home in the north to go find work in the big city of Johannesburg at the gold mines. He ends up in Malay camp; a suburb for blacks. There, he meets Leah, a tough but kind woman, who gives him a place to stay. Though everyone in Leah’s house does not like the idea of Xuma working in the mines, he is determined to work there, despite the harsh conditions that blacks are forced to work under. Xuma is naïve about the city and its ways. On his first walk around the city, he is shocked to see his fellow blacks take off from whites when they have not done any harm. Rather than run, he stands his ground. When a policeman attacks him, he strikers back. This gives him reason enough to flee. His friends call him a fool because of his naivety.Leah is a tough and strong willed woman, unapologetic about her way of life. She brews alcohol, something illegal for blacks but not for whites. When other women bootleggers in her camp are arrested, Xuma feels bad because Leah did not warn them. To which Leah says, “Life is so in the city.” Among the other people that live in Leah’s household are Johannes and Daddy, both of whom find their solace in taking liquor. Xuma falls in love with Leah’s niece, Eliza,, who is a teacher and dresses like the white folks. She loves Xuma but because she has passion for the white man’s things, wants someone who speaks like them she runs away, leaving him bitter. Abandoned, Xuma turns to Maisy whose love he had earlier turned down. At the mines, Xuma’s strength makes him a successful mine boy – a boss boy for one of the mine supervisors – Paddy Oshea, or the red one, as Xuma calls him. Paddy is considerate and understanding, and despite his not being black, he becomes friends with Xuma. To Paddy, a man is a man first and then color comes second. But as Xuma soon realizes, as a black man, he remains a second-class citizen under the apartheid regime. After an accident in the mines that takes the lives of Johannes and other miners, Paddy and Xuma lead the strike together with the mine boys when they are forced to back to work before the place is repaired. It is this incident that makes Xuma understand the real meaning of being a man first and color next, as all the workers join hands and put their differences aside.

STING OF FATE BY ENOCK KIPNGETICH MUTAI BUCHEN

Sting of Fate encircles an African family of five; consisting of a father, mother and three children. Two of them are boys, Manyu and Lodure and a girl Maria. The two older children,
Manyu and Maria, are just at the peak of adolescence. Thus they go to where the wind of puberty sways and whisks them to. This makes them have the desire to free the chain that seems to hold them 'home' and have a breath of air in the free world.

As a result, these changes bring them in collision with their father, Mzee Ezekiel, who is strict and believes in good moral upbringing. The two takes this as mistreatment. Ultimately
they disobey him and rebel, running to St. Zuhura city where they have just heard of and not seen. The moment they step in the city is when they imagine of how hard life is going to be. Money proves to be everything yet they will be lacking it.

Coincidentally, Jack, their village mate bumps into them and helps them greatly. Meanwhile their education is interrupted but their obstinacy and pride still blinds them from realizing the perils they are causing themselves. Little do they know that
their father has got involved in a road accident while thinking about them. They are oblivious of their father's love for them and do not care a hoot about it. That is when fate, in search of
justice, stings them in a way that can only be explained in wonders.
