We’ve all been there, trying to balance the reality of studio expenses with the passion of creating.

And we all have the fear of buying the wrong thing and ending up with a compromised canvas.

Every artist looks at a total like 6,000 KSh and thinks, "Where can I shave off a few coins?" Naturally, the eye drifts to the paint.

​The insider secret is: cutting costs on your primary medium usually ends up costing you more. E.g trying to create impasto with a paint that wasn't designed for that leads to frustration. It also leads you to buying mediums to try and force the paint to act in a way it wasn't created for. That ends up inflating your budget and increasing your frustration with your tools.

It's the same mistake as trying to create fluid art with non fluid acrylics then needing mixers/extra mediums to make it flow. You end up with too many products and an inflated budget and more frustration.

What professionals know better is how to balance their budgets so that they save money on some materials and use those savings to buy quality materials for where quality matters most..

3 years ago, In 2023, I took a chance on a product I wasn't sure Kenya was ready for.

At the time, I only knew two artists who were deeply immersed in graffiti culture. The 2 artists were Sticky and Bankslave. They kept insisting that they wanted me to bring in Montana cans and that there were artists who needed these cans.

So I placed the order and after a long wait, cos shipping cans can be a logistics nightmare, a few cardboard boxes arrived at Eva's carrying something unfamiliar to many of us: Montana Cans.

What followed surprised me.

For many Kenyan artists, Montana WHITE became their first Montana. Their first piece. Their first mural. Their first step into the world of graffiti.

Since then, at Eva's we've been privileged to watch the graffiti community grow. We've welcomed artists from across Kenya and from far beyond our borders. Germany, Slovenia, Tanzania and many more.

Over the years, our Wall of Fame has filled with tags from artists from all over the world, many of whom made Eva's their first stop in Nairobi to pick up a can.

Today, we say goodbye to Montana WHITE.

The manufacturer has decided to discontinue this chapter, but what Montana WHITE represented will remain with us: the courage to try something new, to create boldly, and to build community through art.

Thank you to everyone who picked up a can, left a tag on our wall, painted a mural, or trusted us to be part of your journey.

And thank you to and for seeing what I couldn't yet see and pushing me to bring Montana to Kenya.

A big thank you to for trusting Eva's and for the unwavering support to the Kenyan artists.
