コンゴ共和国ポワントノワール出身のパーカッショニスト、シンガーのFabe Beaurel Bambiが率いる、パリを拠点とするアフロジャズクインテットElikiaによるデビューアルバム。

今作はコンゴの伝統音楽と現代ジャズ、ファンク、スピリチュアルなグルーヴを融合させた「希望に満ちた喜びのメッセージを7曲収録した作品」としている。リンガラ語、ラリ語、キコンゴ語で歌われ、タイトルの「Sala Sala」はリンガラ語で「働く、努力する」という意味を持ち、困難の中でも前へ進む力や未来への希望というメッセージが込められている。収録されている楽曲はダンサブルだが単純な祝祭音楽ではなく、複雑なリズムのうねりとジャズ的な即興性をもち、アフリカの土着的なリズム感とパリの現代ジャズシーンらしい洗練さが同居している。単なるアフロジャズという括りでは収まらない、身体性と精神性を兼ね備えたサウンドが魅力。

The debut album from Elikia, a Paris-based Afro-jazz quintet led by Congo-born (Pointe-Noire) percussionist and vocalist Fabe Beaurel Bambi.

Fusing traditional Congolese music with modern jazz, funk, and spiritual grooves, this release is described as "a seven-track message of joyful hope." Sung in Lingala, Lari, and Kikongo, the album title Sala Sala means "to work" or "to strive" in Lingala, conveying a message of resilience and hope for the future even in the face of hardship.

While danceable, the tracks are far from simple party tunes. They feature complex, swelling rhythms and jazz improvisation, seamlessly marrying indigenous African polyrhythms with the sleek sophistication of Paris's contemporary jazz scene. Transcending the standard "Afro-jazz" label, the album captivates with a sound that is as deeply physical as it is spiritual.

アメリカ・オークランドとメキシコ・グアダラハラを拠点に活動するベテランミュージシャンLuis Gutierrezによるソロプロジェクト、Edgarのデビューアルバム。

Edgarは彼によるペルソナで、 “Edgar feels mightier than anyone but is always reduced to his vices(誰よりも強そうに振る舞うが、結局は自らの悪癖に支配される男)”として設定されている。そんな人格から繰り出されるサウンドは70〜80年代のラテン系ディスコ、B級ホラー、EBM、シンセポップ、ゴシッククンビアをごった煮にしてダンサブルなのにクリーピー、存在しなかった80年代メキシコの深夜のTVショーのBGMのような、不気味で不吉、陽気でユーモラスなマスカレードである。

The debut album from Edgar, a solo project by veteran musician Luis Gutierrez, who is based in Oakland, California, and Guadalajara, Mexico.

Edgar is a persona created by Gutierrez, described as someone who “feels mightier than anyone but is always reduced to his vices.” The sound channeled through this character is a mashed-up, danceable yet creepy blend of '70s and '80s Latino disco, B-movie horror soundtracks, EBM, synth-pop, and gothic cumbia. It forms a sinister, ominous, yet cheerful and humorous masquerade—reminiscent of a soundtrack for a midnight TV show in 1980s Mexico that never actually existed.

カナリア諸島テネリフェ島を拠点に活動する8人組バンド、Gaf & The Love Supreme Arkestraによるアルバム。

今作は廃墟となった石油タンクで録音されたスピリチュアルジャズの即興演奏を収録した第2弾で、ジャズ、サイケデリックロック、フォーク、ブラジル音楽、アフロビート、アンビエントを自由に横断するとてもスケールの大きな作品になっている。ジャンル横断的でありながらも不思議なほどにそれらが自然に溶け合う。ドラム、シンセサイザー、サンプラー、ギターを石油タンクに運び入れ、何日もかけて即興演奏を続け、実験的な演奏とタンクの奇妙な反響が自由で躍動するアンサンブルを演出。テネリフェ島の中でもとりわけ人里離れたタガナナという環境からも彷彿とする、都市の喧騒から離れ、心の旅を描いたコンセプチュアルな作品として楽しめる。

This album is by Gaf & The Love Supreme Arkestra, an eight-piece band based in Tenerife, Canary Islands.

This release marks their second installment featuring spiritual jazz improvisations recorded inside a disused oil tank. It's a grand-scale work that seamlessly traverses jazz, psychedelic rock, folk, Brazilian music, Afrobeat, and ambient. Despite its genre-defying nature, these elements blend together with surprising naturalness.

Carrying drums, synthesizers, samplers, and guitars into the oil tank, they spent days improvising. The experimental performances combined with the tank's strange, unique reverberations create a free-spirited, dynamic ensemble. Inspired by Taganana—one of the most remote parts of Tenerife—this conceptual work can be enjoyed as a soulful journey far removed from the hustle and bustle of city life.
