Our shop has around 50 years history and over 3,000 costumers who are Japanese and non-Japanese. For those who you would like to buy Kimonos,

All these items are at our main shop out side of TOKYO. So please e-mail blue text info, if you are interested in buying Kimono. Our main shop will sent your items to Harajyuku therefor we ask at least 2 days before notice. When your info is not clear (

like " budget : not expensive") , we may not answer it. These info we need "what you like to have and what for it (For wearing, let me know your measurements: height&hip with cm) with budget "

After this info, I will sent our map ( location is different from Kimono rental place). Since a famous Japanese politician live same mansion as our home, security is very high . If I can not see your email with socialized behavior, we may reject your coming.

This lovely girl in a yukata tried her best to explain "Popsicles" and American popsicle culture to me, but I honestly had no idea what a Popsicle was! 😅

​Since she was heading out to stroll through Takesh*ta Street in Harajuku, we decided to drop by a nearby 7-Eleven together so she could show me.

​As you can see in the second photo, I finally figured out what a Popsicle is! (I’m actually holding one in my other hand, out of frame 🤫✨)

​Moments like this remind me how wonderful cultural exchange can be! 👘❤️🇺🇸

Off to Meiji Jingu in lovely yukata! 👘✨

Meiji Jingu is one of the best places in Tokyo to wear a yukata. It’s only about a 10-minute walk from our shop to the main gate!

Even in the summer heat, strolling through the lush green forest of Meiji Jingu in a traditional yukata feels so cool and refreshing. Have a wonderful time! 🌿💚

These absolutely adorable sisters had a great time wearing yukata today! 👘✨

At our shop, we carry sizes to fit almost every height. The younger sister is wearing a traditional children's yukata, which is why the sleeves are a bit longer. It’s actually designed with extra length so it can be adjusted and worn for another two years as she grows! 👧🏻🌿

Harajuku, where Sakaeya is located, is the ultimate fashion paradise for Japanese teenagers. With summer vacation in full swing, young people are visiting from all over Japan right now. But I can safely say these two were definitely the most fashionable and totally stood out in the crowd! 💖

After returning to the shop, they experienced a traditional tea ceremony. They drank their matcha so elegantly! 🍵 Having beautiful manners when eating and drinking is highly valued in Japanese culture. These days, you might see more Japanese people resting their elbows on the table while eating, but when I was little, I would definitely get scolded for doing that! 🤫😆

Thank you so much to everyone who joined me in praying for Hiroshima yesterday. TEIO sales mng is appreciated with his bowing. Tomorrow 9th Aug marks the anniversary of the atomic bombing in Nagasaki. 🕊️

I often have the opportunity to talk with customers and friends from overseas. One thing that has surprised me is that people from victorious nations often don't know much about what happened in the defeated nations. It wasn't just Hiroshima and Nagasaki—countless civilians also lost their lives in the bombings of Tokyo, okinawa, Osaka etc.. .

I truly believe that change begins with knowing our history. That is why, as a Japanese person, I choose to post about this every year.

Also, it’s worth noting that kimono culture blossomed and deepened greatly during times of peace. During WWII, however, everyone had to wear monpe (traditional work pants) over their kimonos.

If you're wondering, "What are monpe?", please look last photo ! You might be surprised. 👘✨

August 6th is a day we must never forget in Japan—the day the atomic bomb was dropped on Hiroshima. As I offer my prayers today, my mind inevitably turns to the countries that are still at war right now. Not just nuclear weapons, but war itself is something humanity simply shouldn't have.

Recently, I read a few chapters from the Old Testament. The story of Cain and Abel—a brother taking his brother's life—heartbreakingly mirrors what is happening in the world today. Whether it’s Russia and Ukraine (neighboring countries), or Israel, the US, and Iran (whose faiths—Judaism, Christianity, and Islam—likely share the same roots). I truly pray that all of these wars end as soon as possible. 🙏

Even without war, so many lives are devastated by massive earthquakes and natural disasters. If there is suffering we can actually stop with our own human will, we should.

Meanwhile, my cat Ceo has become an olive tree today 🌿—a little symbol of peace, sending out wishes for a kinder, more peaceful world. 🕊️🐈🌍

I opened the Sakaeya KimonoTokyo with one main goal: to share truly authentic Kimono and Yukata culture with people from all over the world. 👘✨

Unlike typical tourist rental spots or souvenir shops selling pre-made "easy-wear" kimono and yukatas, we are dedicated to genuine craftsmanship as well. We offer authentic, high-quality pieces for both sale and rental at fair rates.

Today, a wonderful customer visited us specifically because she was looking for this kind of authentic Yukata. Meeting her truly warmed my heart! 🤍 To deeply understand traditional culture, it takes more than just pleasant, easy words—it requires honest conversations. I shared my true thoughts on kimono culture with her, and she appreciated it, saying, "Thank you for being honest."

She loved our collection so much that she ordered not only the yukata in this post, but also a stunning, authentically hand-dyed Chikusen yukata! It will be carefully hand-sewn by a traditional Japanese tailor (Wasai-shi). I can’t wait to show you the finished piece when it's ready! 🪡🌸

We coordinated both of her yukatas with a beautiful, natural h**p (asa) obi. Stay tuned! ✨

This yukata is not a simple print—it is beautifully dyed on both sides using the traditional Japanese chusen (注染) method. In the past, almost all yukata were crafted this way. Because the dye penetrates the fabric, the colors are deep, rich, and look absolutely stunning even under the strong summer sun. ☀️🌿

A gentle warning: many modern yukata sold by standard clothing brands today use very thin, printed fabrics. Please be careful, as they can sometimes be sheer enough to show your undergarments! 🫣

Do you know the difference between Shinto and Buddhism in Japan? 🇯🇵⛩️🏯

Sometimes my wonderful customers tell me, "I visited Meiji-deraTemple " or "I went to Asakusa Shrine," and it always surprises me a little! In Japan, shrines and temples are fundamentally different. Here is a quick guide:

⛩️ Shinto (Shrines / Jinja or Jingu) Shinto is Japan’s ancient, indigenous religion. It is deeply rooted in Japanese mythology, where the ancestors of the Japanese Emperor are revered as deities (gods).

🏯 Buddhism (Temples / Tera or Ji) As you may know, Buddhism originated in India and was introduced to Japan via China around the 6th century. At that time, China was a highly advanced civilization. To learn from them and modernize, the Japanese government actively spread Buddhism throughout the country.

📸 About the photos: The top photo shows a Shinto shrine, and the bottom photo shows a Buddhist grave.

While both are places where people go to pray, the history and meanings behind them are completely different. It makes your trip to Japan much more meaningful if you know which one you are visiting!

As you may already know, another major earthquake struck Kumamoto Prefecture yesterday. Tragically, there have been casualties, and both people and animals are still reported missing.
