Textile Craft in Paris
UNIQLO RIVOLI

We are pleased to introduce a large textile artwork delivered to UNIQLO RIVOLI in Paris.

Created in collaboration with designers and makers in Kyoto and Paris, the work has been permanently displayed since the store opened in September 2021.

The tapestry uses Sakiori, a traditional Japanese weaving technique. Garments collected through UNIQLO’s clothing recycling initiative were cut into 15 mm strips and woven by hand to create the freesia motifs.

Recycled Mino Washi paper yarn was also incorporated into the work, combining traditional textile techniques with reused materials.

パリのUNIQLO RIVOLI様へ納品した、大型テキスタイルアートをご紹介します。

京都とパリのデザイナーや職人が協働して制作し、2021年9月のオープン以来、店内に常設展示されています。

作品には、日本の伝統的な織りの技法である「裂き織り」を取り入れています。ユニクロの衣料品回収活動で集められた衣類を15mm幅に裂き、フリージアの模様を一枚ずつ手作業で織り上げました。

さらに、リサイクル美濃和紙の糸も使用し、伝統的な技法と再利用素材を組み合わせています。

Crafted Light at Tokyo Hills Clinic Ginza

A past project at Tokyo Hills Clinic Ginza, featuring lighting and a traditional Japanese wagasa.

The layered shades create a sculptural presence, while the softly diffused light adds warmth and depth to the wooden interior. Together with the vivid purple wagasa, they bring a distinctive Japanese character to the space.

Kyoto Craftsmanship for Shiseido Ginza
Wagasa Structure in a Modern Display

We are pleased to introduce our collaboration for the holiday window display at the Tokyo Ginza Shiseido Building.

For this installation, the Washi paper was removed to reveal the inner structure of traditional Wagasa. The geometric bamboo ribs and decorative threads, usually seen only from beneath the umbrella, became the main elements of the display.

By presenting the structure of Wagasa in a contemporary setting, this project offers a new perspective on Kyoto craftsmanship.

東京銀座資生堂ビルのホリデーウィンドウディスプレイに、制作協力させていただいた事例をご紹介します。

今回は和紙を張らず、普段は和傘の内側から見える竹骨と飾り糸の構造を、ディスプレイの主役として見せています。

和傘の構造を現代的な空間に取り入れることで、京都の伝統技術を新しい視点から表現したプロジェクトです。

Bamboo Craft
For Architecture and Lighting

Bamboo has long been used in Japan for architecture and everyday crafts. Lightweight, flexible, and strong, it can be split, bent, joined, and woven into many different forms.

These photographs show bamboo used for ceilings, partitions, doors, wall panels, and lighting. By changing the length, spacing, and arrangement, bamboo can create both geometric and organic patterns suited to each space.

竹は、古くから日本の建築や工芸に使われてきた素材です。軽くてしなやかでありながら強度が高く、割る、曲げる、組む、編むといった加工ができます。

写真では、天井や間仕切り、建具、壁面、照明に用いた竹の意匠をご紹介しています。
長さや間隔、組み方を変えることで、空間に合わせた幾何学的な模様や有機的な表現が可能です。

Wagasa Pendant Light
Japanese Umbrella Lighting

A pendant light by Hiyoshiya, created using traditional Japanese wagasa-making techniques.

The radiating bamboo ribs and softly illuminated washi paper form a light, graceful silhouette, bringing the structure of a Japanese umbrella into contemporary interiors.

和傘の構造を生かして製作した、日吉屋のペンダント照明です。

放射状に広がる竹骨と、やわらかく光を透かす和紙が、軽やかなフォルムをつくり出します。和傘づくりの技術を、現代の空間に取り入れた照明です。

Kitayama Cedar and Urushi Cabinet
Designed by Garnier et Linker

This cabinet, designed by Garnier et Linker, combines Kitayama cedar with natural urushi lacquer.

The distinctive texture of the cedar is preserved through thin layers of urushi, carefully applied and finished by hand.

The collection brings together traditional Japanese materials and contemporary French design.

北山杉と漆を組み合わせた、Garnier et Linker デザインのキャビネットです。

京都北部で育てられてきた北山杉の自然な凹凸を生かし、天然漆を薄く塗り重ねて手作業で仕上げています。

日本の伝統素材とフランスのデザインを融合した家具コレクションです。

Floating Wagasa
Four Seasons Hotel Kyoto

A bespoke lighting piece designed by Kyoto-born architect Ryosuke Yamamoto and handcrafted by Hiyoshiya for Four Seasons Hotel Kyoto.

Its light, suspended form evokes a Japanese wagasa floating in the air, while the soft glow filtering through the washi paper brings warmth to the space.

フォーシーズンズホテル京都様に納品させていただいた特注照明です。

京都出身の建築家・山本良介氏がデザインし、日吉屋が製作しました。
和傘が宙に浮かぶような軽やかなフォルムと、和紙を通して広がるやわらかな光が、
空間をあたたかく照らします。

Crafted Light
The Ritz-Carlton, Kyoto

We are pleased to introduce a large-scale chandelier created and delivered by Hiyoshiya Craft Lab for The Ritz-Carlton, Kyoto.

Based on our MOTO pendant light, this custom-made piece was developed to suit the scale and interior of the hotel.

The chandelier is composed of numerous slender elements arranged around a warm central light. Viewed from below, they form a radial pattern. From the side, the different lengths overlap to create a layered, cascading silhouette.

Its appearance changes depending on the viewing angle. In addition to illuminating the space, it serves as a focal point within the hotel’s open interior.

ザ・リッツ・カールトン京都様へ納品した、大型シャンデリアをご紹介します。

日吉屋のペンダントライト「MOTO」をもとに、ホテルの空間やスケールに合わせて特別に製作した照明です。

中央のあたたかな光を囲むように、細長い部材を数多く配置しています。真下から見上げると放射状に広がり、横から見ると長さの異なる部材が幾重にも重なって、下へ流れるような立体的な形が現れます。

見る位置によって形の見え方が変わり、照明として空間を照らすだけでなく、吹き抜けの中心で目を引く存在となっています。

Kyoto Craftsmanship in Paris
The Grand Textile Art for UNIQLO RIVOLI

We are thrilled to highlight the permanent textile art installation at UNIQLO RIVOLI in Paris, where it has been showcased since the store's grand opening in September 2021.

Serving as a creative bridge between Japan and France, this monumental artwork was produced by our studio, unifying a visionary collective from Kyoto and Paris.

The installation honors circular design by implementing "Sakiori" (裂き織り), a traditional Japanese upcycling technique originating from the Tohoku region.

To form the delicate freesia blossoms, strips of recycled garments (15mm wide) collected through UNIQLO’s clothing recycling initiative were carefully handwoven into the fabric.Furthermore, the piece incorporates the world's first "recycled Mino Washi paper" thread, celebrating a craftsmanship recognized as a UNESCO intangible cultural heritage.

By merging ancient Kyoto artistry with a contemporary Parisian perspective, this permanent masterpiece redefines interior materials through the lens of deep sustainability. ✨
