Setting things off with “Brighter Days” which samples Red Carpet’s “Alright” vocals stripped down and built up into a hypnotic groove that retains the original’s uplifting message. “Satisfy the Need” draws inspiration from Dexter Wansel’s “The Sweetest Pai”n. DJ Clear turns this R&B gem into a warm, emotive burner proving less is more. On the flip, Clear dives into vintage house mode with “Right Now Baby” echoing the classic underground sound that has conquered the world. Closing out is “Together” a funky composition revolving around the long-forgotten Kay Gees cut “Latican Funk”. What begins as a dusty groove transforms into a smooth, late night banger. This EP is a tribute to house music’s timeless soul infused with Clear’s signature minimal technique delivering perfect vibes.

2025年、Cruisicはアルバムを発表した後も精力的に制作活動を行っていました。そこで彼らが取り上げた楽曲のひとつに、この”Spanish Joint”のカヴァーがありました。無事にレコーディングを済ませ、ミキシングで最終の詰め作業をしている時に、まさかのディアンジェロの訃報が....　あまりのショックに一度はリリースを見合わせる事も話し合われましたが、「彼の楽曲は永遠に生き続ける」という思いを改めて込めて、この度アナログ・リリースが決定しました。本作では原曲のグルーヴを継承しつつも、よりダンサブルで都会的なサウンドへと再構築したインスト・ナンバーで、Cruisicの持つ感性がふんだんに散りばめられた作品となりました。B-Sideには、レーベル30周年コンピにも収録され話題を呼んだ、ROCK-Teeによる“Come With Me (ROCK-Tee’s 巴西韻 Remix)” を収録。大胆なアレンジを巧みに練り上げた、ROCK-Teeならではの現場主義的アプローチが光る、躍動感あふれるリミックスです。

After a relatively quiet year - by his standards at least - Glyne Braithwaite aka Risk Assessment is back with three more simultaneously released EPs. This one, number eight in the long-serving producer’s ongoing series, boasts four more happy-go-lucky, party-friendly workouts. Check first ‘Love Music Part 1’, where disco samples from a cover of an O’Jays classic (including the familiar piano refrain) rise above a typically thickset house groove, before admiring the more urgent, excitable and musically detailed disco-house rush of ‘Son of a Gun’. The fun continues on the flipside, where ‘Want You Back (Kitchen Disco mix)’ - all shuffling beats, lovely Clavinet licks and female vocalisations - is joined by the similarly celebratory 70s soul-goes-disco-house goodness of ‘Welcome (Remix)’.

Disco-house fusionist Risk Assessment rounds off another successful year with a third and final EP of 2025. Braithwaite deals a near perfect hand on ‘Play Your Cards’, where excerpts from a Loleatta Holloway/Salsoul Orchestra style maximalist disco hit rise above a chunky, bass-heavy groove, before reaching for elements from a jaunty, piano-heavy disco number on the rolling and ear-catching ‘Juicy Smollett’. Elsewhere, ‘Testing Testing’ is a gargantuan disco-house extravaganza full of sampled horns, rubbery bass, stellar orchestration and urgent male vocals, while ‘Baby Call Me’ sees him re-imagine a smooth and colourful 80s soul jam as a tactile and funky house workout.

While self-proclaimed "garage and jackin' house" revivalist Marc Cotterell has developed his Plastik People label into a fine outlet blessed with an ever-growing family of artists, he still maintains a steady release schedule of his own. The British producer is naturally in good form on his latest Plastik People missive. Check first opener 'Take Your Time', where breezy piano stabs and deliciously soulful vocals ride a squelchy bassline and loose-limbed garage-house beats, before admiring the more "trad" soulful house flex of the gorgeous and lightly funky 'Mysterious Ex'. Over on side B, 'Feed The Soul' is a string-laden slab of revivalist New Jersey garage-house goodness which doffs a cap to the early 1990s, while 'This Life Living' re-casts Jill Scott r&b classic 'Golden' as a rolling soulful house delight.

Mate knows that you can’t really beat the original deep house blueprint so the music it releases doesn’t often try. Instead, it just tweaks and refines, colours a little around the edges, but always keeps musicality and soul at the centre. Toolate Groove is next up with a super tasteful offering that opens with quietly euphoric ‘Librame’ and also comes as a delicious dub. ‘97 Ride’ (Club Mix) has a distinctly 90s feel with fun Rhodes jamming and swinging claps. The Destiny Dream Dub ups the heat with a smoking female vocal and more pronounced bassline then ‘Fresh From Abidjan’ brings some dusty breaks to a surging groove. As classy as it gets from front to back, frankly.
