A mosaic is a piece of art or image made from the assembling of small pieces of naurally colored Stones (it is not a matter of coloring the Stones) . It is often used in decorative art or as interior decoration. Most mosaics are made of small, flat, roughly square, pieces of stone of different colors. Some, especially floor mosaics, are made of small rounded pieces of stone and called pebble mosaics.
Mosaic art flourished in the Byzantine Empire from the 6th to the 15th centuries; in the Middle East Especially in Jordan. The capital city for mosaic is called Madaba which has over than 30 churches all decorated with mosaics like the down pictures.
Mosaic was widely used on churches and palaces and covers their walls and floors.
Modern mosaics are made by professional artists, street artists, and as a popular craft.
