VISIT THE FURNACE

Having left the family furnace, in 1946 Archimede Seguso founds his own, which begins to operate completely on October 10, 1948. Constructed immediately after the war it was conceived in an innovative way already at that time, with an exterior studied in such a way as to allow for a specific pathway for the flow of goods, from the moment the prime materials entered, to the exit of the manufactured goods; and nonetheless this demonstrates historic equipment transported and made productive for the pleasure of tradition and the beauty of simple things.
The ovens are antique in this “traditionalistic” furnace, and like at the beginning of the century, the workforce can be found around it, working on stools which are at least one hundred years old. The work instruments are historical, handed down for generations and the rods used to blow into are like the ones used by the Romans (today they are only longer). The work rhythms are slow and paced as those of the Renaissance workshops of the 1400s.

The furnace of the Vetreria Archimede Seguso is closed to the public. The tours are to be booked and arranged in advance. During the tours it is possible to observe the glass workmanship, to learn of the traditional techniques of the production and to visit the Museum of the works created by Archimede Seguso

VISITA ALLA FORNACE DEL MAESTRO ARCHIMEDE SEGUSO

Abbandonata la fornace di famiglia, nel 1946 Archimede Seguso fonda la sua, che entra in piena attività il 10 ottobre 1948. Costruita subito dopo la guerra era concepita in modo innovativo già all’epoca, con un esterno studiato in modo da consentire un preciso percorso di flussi delle merci, dall’ingresso delle materie prime all’uscita dei manufatti; e nonostante ciò mostra attrezzature storiche trasportate e rese produttive per il gusto della tradizione e la bellezza di cose semplici.

I forni sono antichi, in questa fornace “tradizionalista” , e come ad inizio secolo, le maestranze vi stanno attorno, lavorando su scanni che hanno almeno cento anni. Gli strumenti del lavoro sono storici, quelli tramandati da generazioni e le canne che si utilizzano per soffiare, sono come quelle che utilizzavano i romani (oggi sono solo più lunghe). I ritmi del lavoro sono lenti e scanditi come nelle botteghe rinascimentali del 1400.

VISITE INDIVIDUALI, FAMIGLIARI E DI GRUPPO

La fornace della Vetreria Archimede Seguso è chiusa al pubblico. Le visite devono essere prenotate e concordate per tempo. Durante la visita è possibile assistere alla lavorazione del vetro, conoscere le tecniche tradizionali di lavorazione e visitare il Museo delle opere di Archimede Seguso.

REMEMBRANCE
Archimede is no longer among us since September 6, 1999, he is gone, as he would say, to go make “Chandeliers for Heaven”, after having lived a long, creative, intensely laborious life.
Entrepreneur and glass making master working in Murano like his ancestors in the Middle Ages, he personified the tradition, the technique, the inspiration, the dexterity and was the one who rediscovered the Eighteenth century filigree. His fabric, his laces, are world famous.
Archimede Seguso never lost sight of the historical moment he was living in and was gifted with an intuition which foresaw trends. The Master possessed that disarming simplicity which made him a very charismatic person for his captivating characteristics of human nature where the intelligent irony escaped the risks of self-satisfaction.
A large part of the Twentieth century has seen Archimede as the avant-garde leading character of glass art. A great technical study emerges in his work, it is at times very complex, but always tied to the formal quality and therefore freed from pure virtuosity. Creator and tireless inventor of forms and inimitable works, he has seen his pieces exhibited in many museums all over the world and his art is particularly esteemed by collectors.
In life, it was never his intention to produce works of art, but had always desired to create beauty, for himself and for the joy of others.

IL RICORDO

Dal 6 settembre 1999 Archimede non c’è più, se ne è andato, come diceva lui, a fare “Lampadari per il Paradiso”, dopo avere vissuto una vita lunghissima, creativa, intensamente laboriosa.

Imprenditore e maestro vetraio operante a Murano come i suoi avi nel Medioevo, ha incarnato in sé la tradizione, la tecnica, l’ispirazione, la manualità ed è stato colui che ha riscoperto la filigrana settecentesca. La sua stoffa, i suoi merletti, sono famosissimi.

Archimede Seguso, non perdeva mai di vista il momento storico in cui viveva ed era dotato di un intuito che anticipava le mode. Il maestro possedeva quella semplicità disarmante che ha reso la sua figura carismatica per i suoi caratteri accattivanti di una umanità nella quale l’ironia intelligente sfuggiva ai rischi di autocompiacimento.

Buona parte del ventesimo secolo ha visto Archimede protagonista d’avanguardia dell’arte vetraria. Nella sua opera emerge una grande ricerca tecnica, talvolta complessa, ma sempre legata alla qualità formale e quindi svincolata dal puro virtuosismo. Creatore e instancabile ideatore di forme e lavorazioni inimitabili, ha visto le sue opere presenti in molti musei del mondo e la sua arte è particolarmente apprezzata dai collezionisti.

In vita non ha mai inteso produrre opere d’arte, ma ha sempre desiderato creare bellezza, per sé e per fare felici gli altri.

VISIT THE MUSEUM

The collection by Archimede Seguso, which will be shown temporarily in some of the sale rooms of the antique and historical glass factory in Murano, boasts works which cover the entire period of the Nineteenth century.
A journey into the art of glass, in which you can admire some extraordinary pieces which outline periods, styles, innovations, artistic abilities and expression, by a man who all over the world was defined as the “Master of Masters”.
The museum, considering the noteworthy amount of pieces on exhibit and their rarity, can be indifferently covered according to historical eras, exhibits (Triennials, Biennials, etc…) or workmanship techniques.

VISITA AL MUSEO
La collezione di Archimede Seguso, che è ospitata temporaneamente in alcune delle sale vendita della antica e storica vetreria di Murano, vanta opere che coprono tutto il periodo del Novecento.
Un percorso nell’arte del vetro, in cui poter ammirare alcuni straordinari pezzi che delineano tempi, stili, innovazioni, capacità ed espressione artistica, di colui che nel mondo fu definito “Maestro dei Maestri”.

Il museo, considerata la notevole quantità e rarità di pezzi esposti, può essere indifferentemente percorso per epoche storiche, per mostre (Triennali, Biennali ecc…) o per tecniche di lavorazione.
