ANTONIO BASSETTI : THE FOUNDER
My story with the family firm started when i was very young, at just 21 years i was called by my father Lorenzo and muy uncle Giuseppe who decided to appoint me to bhe ther successor according to tradition of Bassetti,this new and hazardous adventure such as the trade of fabrics just in the heart of Rome in via delle Botteghe Oscure n27 n 29 ( nowdays the buildin
gs belongs to the Crypta Balbi national museum ). At the beginning it was very hard because we were going to enterin in the business of fabrics where our future competitors already dictated law. My father had already prepared me for the many difficulties to be faced when he asked me to help him to provide even for my younger brothers aged 10 and 8 years fact that i willingly accepted for the demostration of confidence in me that my father had. So i devoted myself body and soul to my job without complaint even if we worked all day long till night, and so crumb after crumb i made it setting up my new roman shop till may 1959 we stayed in via delle Botteghe Oscure then we moved to corso Vittorio Emanuele during the years i came up with an intuation and i started to look for ispiration where fashion look place so that i was always aware on trendies , that's how i had the privilege to meet Clara Centinaro a fantastic fashion dressmaker and i persuasded her to accept making creations with the fabrics i showed her and that's how fashion world opened the doors for me and after a while my uncle and my brothers joined me between 1960 and 1972. Today my kid Pierlorenzo Marco Gambedotti keep a tight rein on on the family firm moving back in via del Gesu' 60 so once again a new challenge which will make me proud i'm sure. Antonio Bassetti
ANTONIO BASSETTI : IL FONDATORE
La mia storia nell'azienda di famiglia inizia quando ancora ero giovanissimo. Appena ventiduenne infatti sono stato chiamato ad affrontare, asseieme a mio padre Lorenzo e mio zio Giuseppe che avevano decretato in me il successore della tradizione Bassetti, questa nuova e rischiosa avventura: il commercio dei tessuti a Roma in Via delle Botteghe Oscure n27 n29 ( ora questi locali fanno parte dellla Cripta Balbi). Era la domenica del 7/6/1953, lo ricordo come fosse ieri. Cosi' come rammento che gli inizi furono molto duri in quanto ci andavamo ad inserire nel commercio di tessuti romano dove gia' dettavano legge i nostri futuri concorrenti. Mio padre mi aveva gia' preparato alle tante difficolta' da affrontare quando mi chiese di aiutarlo a provvedere al mantenimento anche dei miei fratelli piu' piccoli di 10 e 8 anni, cosa che accettai di buon grado per la dimostrazione di fiducia che mio padre aveva in me. Fu cosi',mi dedicai anima e corpo al lavoro senza mai lamentarmi perche' si lavorava dalla mattina presto alla sera tardi. E cosi', briciola dopo briciola, sono riouscito ad avviare il nuovo negozio romano. Rimanemmo nei locali di Via delle Botteghe Oscure fino al Maggio del 1959 per trasferirci in corso Vittorio Emanuele . Nel Corso degli anni ho avuto l'intuizione di cercare ispirazione laddove di decideva la tendenza ; e' stato in quel periodo che ho avuto il privilegio di conoscere Clara Centinaro, creatrice di abiti di Alta Moda, la quale non senza molte ore di anticamera, ha accettato di realizzare le sue collezioni con i tessuti da me presentati aprendomi di fatto la strada per l'alta moda e presentando i miei tessuti negli ambienti piu' prestigiosi di quel periodo,in seguito tra il 1960 e il 1972,anche mio zio e i miei fratelli entrarono a far parte dell'azienda di famiglia. Oggi mio figlio ,Pierlorenzo insieme a Marco Gambedotti , ad affrontare una nuova rinascita ,di nuovo in via del Gesu' 60 ,l'ennesima sfida volta a dare continuita' alla lunga tradizione di famiglia di famiglia e che , sono certo ,sara' per me,grande motivo di orgoglio.
