The cingulum, the iconic Roman military belt, was one of the most important elements of a Roman soldier’s equipment throughout the centuries.

But how do you choose the correct cingulum for the historical period you want to portray?

Many unique and complex historical replicas are built to be set behind a glass, for exhibition.

Very few are actually used.

This Celtic war chariot is one of such few examples.
It has been employed for years during the historical reenactment of the battle of Sentinum.

It has crossed reenactment battlefields, carried reenactors in full kit and worked in front of the public.

It carries not only a physical reconstruction, but also years of field experience.

And now, it's 𝗹𝗼𝗼𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗮 𝗻𝗲𝘄 𝗵𝗼𝗺𝗲.

Soon we will publish a dedicated page with complete photographs, technical details and availability information.

How a Samnite hoplite shall be armed.

⚔️ A panoply is not a collection of pieces.
It’s a system.

Those who have been in the field long enough know it.
You don’t build it in a week.

And in the meantime, you make do.
– borrowed equipment
– inconsistent pieces
– solutions that don’t really hold up

Until, at some point, it shows.
A panoply that doesn’t work as a whole never truly convinces.

🛡️ At Res Bellica, we approach it differently.
We don’t assemble gear: we design coherent reconstructions.
Each element exists in relation to the others: materials, proportions, construction, context.

⏱️ The result is not just “your kit”.
It’s a reconstruction that holds its ground.
In the field.
And in front of those who know what they’re looking at.

It’s not often that you see a Celtic war chariot genuinely used in historical reenactment.

This example was built around eight years ago for the reenactment of the battle of Sentinum (295 BC).

Over the years, it has actually been used on the field in multiple occasions.
Now, this project is 𝗹𝗼𝗼𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗮 𝗻𝗲𝘄 𝗵𝗼𝗺𝗲.

This is not a scenic prop: it's a chariot built to be used, displayed, driven and experienced within living history contexts.

In the coming weeks we will publish more details, photographs, materials and complete information.

We have expanded the 𝗜𝘁𝗮𝗹𝗶𝗰𝗮 𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗲 with new products made on request and fully custom-fitted.

Among them, a key element of Roman military equipment: the 𝗰𝗶𝗻𝗴𝘂𝗹𝘂𝗺.

Not just an accessory, but a powerful symbol of military status, identity, a piece that cannot be missing in a faithful reconstruction.

Our cingula are:
• tailored to the reenactor
• built with historically coherent materials and methods
• fully configurable in details and fittings
• developed through direct dialogue from design to production

Because a cingulum is never a standard item.

It is a defining piece of your impression.

A new Roman cingulum we just made for Ryan, one of our customers.

As usual, this work started with a specific request and idea from the customer, for a Roman military belt of the second half of the 1st century AD.

We then cross-checked his request with the available sources: not only to verify that his idea was correct, but most and foremost to understand how to properly make it, respecting the sources.

After a deep research, we then started to work on the belt itself.

Where needed, we stepped in: clarifying doubts, identifying issues, proposing solutions, including aspects that were not initially considered.

That’s how custom work functions: continuous dialogue and informed choices.

From there, we move into design, testing, and construction.

If you have something specific in mind, that you want to make real, visit our website or send us a message.

How much do we really know about the Roman legionary belt during the Dacian Wars?

Less than you might think.
Between scarce archaeological evidence and careful interpretation, reconstruction becomes a balance between data and hypothesis.

In this article, we take you inside our research process and the making of a historically grounded Trajanic belt.

Not a catalog product.
You wouldn't have fond it among standard options.

This Mycenaean shield was made for a specific request.

Our loyal customer Spyros Bakas of Association Koryvantes - Κορύβαντες came to us with a clear idea: a Mycenaean shield that is credible, consistent, and built with a method, not just an aesthetic interpretation.

In this case, the work started from the sources provided by him.

We cross-checked them, verified them, and discussed every detail together.
Where needed, we stepped in: clarifying doubts, identifying issues, proposing solutions, including aspects that were not initially considered.

That’s how custom work functions: continuous dialogue and informed choices.

From there, we move into design, testing, and construction.

This is not a quick process.
And it’s not the same kind of product you find on request in our catalog.

But this is exactly what we’ve been doing for years.

And if you don’t have a starting point?
We can handle the historical research as well, from start to finish.
It’s a separate service, with its own time and cost, but it ensures a reconstruction built on solid foundations.

If you’re looking for something that doesn’t already exist (or only exists in approximate forms) we can develop it with you.

You’re not asking for “just another item.”
You’re asking for a reconstruction.

If you have something specific in mind, that you want to make real, send us a message.

You've been doing reenactment for a while now.

Most of the equipment looks all right, you have what you need to take part to most of the events.

Now it's time to work on the details and on what's missing.

So, what's missing to complete historical reenactment gear?

Probably, a historically correct brooch.

Discover our collection of historical brooches, many of them made by us in Italy.

And if you don't find the precise fibula you're looking for, send us a message to [email protected]
We'll make for you the precise brooch you need.
