6 Australians, the book
From Chapter 8, Concert at Libro Music Hall (Vienna, 1997).
"As the concert was about to start, I had time to buy a ticket and the usual t-shirt, before finding a great position right under the stage.
The building, similar to the Palatrussardi in Milan (where I had been to the previous concert on the X Tour), got quite crowded and the concert begun to the tune of Elegantly Wasted; the band were ready and, as per usual, they didn’t disappoint. I really liked Tim (dressed à la J.R. in Dallas) for the way he was inciting the audience: it looked like he was almost waiting for our hint to start his scratchy, yet precise riffs.
Michael was dressed in black from head to toe and showed off the same self-confident and bold attitude from the previous concerts; however, as time passed, I felt like he was somewhat different.
So much energy, so much love for the audience, but also a sort of restlessness: he took off his shoes and the shirt, leapt onto the crowd, laid down on the stage (.....)
They played almost every song from the upcoming album, Show me, Don’t loose your head, Searching, Everything, Girl on fire and some of the past music hits, closing in on a grand finale with Su***de Blonde when the audience started coming on stage, encouraged by Michael.
At the end of the concert I stayed at the barrier below the stage for a while… I looked at the people who were slowly beginning to leave, but in my heart, I felt like something was wrong.
During the long journey back home, this vaguely sad feeling gradually lifted and made way to contentment: I was thankful for another unforgettable experience I’d had thanks to this band. 💖
