The International Day of Yoga 2022 theme is "Yoga for Humanity".

International Yoga Day 2022: History

International Yoga Day is also called World Yoga Day. For the first time, it was celebrated on 21 June 2015. This initiative was taken by the Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi by giving an impactful speech related to yoga on 27 September 2014 in the United Nations General Assembly and for this reason, on 21 June, it was declared "International Yoga Day". The proposal to celebrate the International Day of Yoga on 21 June in the United States was approved by 193 members on 11 December 2014.

At the UN General Assembly, Narendra Modi said "Yoga is an invaluable gift of India’s ancient tradition. It embodies unity of mind and body; thought and action; restraint and fulfillment; harmony between man and nature; a holistic approach to health and well-being. It is not about exercise but to discover a sense of oneness with yourself, the world, and nature. Changing our lifestyle and creating consciousness, can help us deal with climate change. Let us work towards adopting an International Yoga Day”.

Sam Kutesa, President of the UN General Assembly, announced to celebrate the International Yoga Day on June 21 and more than 170 countries supported the Yoga Day proposal. From this it came to light that people also know about the benefits of yoga, some of which are visible and some are invisible.

Environment Day 2022

Sweden is the host country of World Environment Day, 2022, with 'Only One Earth' — focussing on living sustainably in harmony with nature — as the theme.

World Environment Day (WED) is celebrated annually on 5 June and is the United Nations' principal vehicle for encouraging awareness and action for the protection of the environment. First held in 1973, it has been a platform for raising awareness on environmental issues such as marine pollution, overpopulation, global warming, sustainable consumption and wildlife crime. World Environment Day is a global platform for public outreach, with participation from over 143 countries annually. Each year, the program has provided a theme and forum for businesses, non government organizations, communities, governments and celebrities to advocate environmental causes.

World Environment Day was first celebrated in the year 1974. This day has created a platform to raise an awareness that the world is facing the problem such as air pollution, plastic pollution, global warming and sea level increasing day by day. In the year 2022, Sweden is the host of world environment day.

World Thyroid Day takes place on 25th May each year. World Thyroid Day aims at increasing public awareness of thyroid deceases, namely the importance of their timely diagnosis, treatment and prevention. The thyroid gland is an endocrine gland in your neck. It makes two hormones that are secreted into the blood: thyroxine (T4) and triiodothyronine (T3). These hormones are necessary for all the cells in your body to work normally.

What does the thyroid gland do? The thyroid gland produces hormones that regulate the body's metabolic rate controlling heart, muscle and digestive function, brain development and bone maintenance. Its correct functioning depends on a good supply of iodine from the diet.

Buddha's Birthday (also known as Buddha Jayanti, also known as his day of enlightenment - Buddha Purnima, Buddha Pournami) is a Buddhist festival that is celebrated in most of East Asia and South Asia commemorating the birth of the Prince Siddhartha Gautama, later the Gautama Buddha, who was the founder of Buddhism. According to Buddhist tradition, Gautama Buddha was born c. 563–483 BCE in Lumbini, Nepal.
The exact date of Buddha's birthday is based on the Asian lunisolar calendars. The date for the celebration of Buddha's birthday varies from year to year in the Western Gregorian calendar, but usually falls in April or May. In leap years it may be celebrated in June.
In South and Southeast Asia, the Buddha's birth is celebrated as part of Vesak, a festival that also celebrates the Buddha's enlightenment (on the day of the full moon) and death. In East Asia, the awakening and death of the Buddha are observed as separate holidays.

Tribute to our famous Bengali Poet Sukanta Bhattacharjee on his 76th death anniversary

Sukanta Bhattacharya was a Bengali poet and playwright. He was called 'Young Nazrul' and 'Kishore Bidrohi Kobi', a reference to the great rebel poet Kazi Nazrul Islam for Sukanta's similar rebellious stance against the tyranny of the British Raj and the oppression by the social elites through the work of his poetry.
