In 1614, Asmat Begum - mother of the Mughal empress Noor Jahan - was overseeing a royal bath scattered with rose petals when she noticed an oily film floating on the surface of the water. She skimmed it off, recognised it as the concentrated essence of the rose, and gave the world its first true attar. Emperor Jahangir was so moved by it that he recorded the discovery in his own memoirs and named the perfume Itr-i-Jahangiri.
Within a generation, Kannauj in Uttar Pradesh became the centre of top. British rose rose perfumery, - and four hundred years later, blooming jasmine it still is.
Why we made it - Most Indian homes It used to have a raat ki rani somewhere - on a terrace, by a window, in a el corner of the garden- and the scent d would arrive after sunset like a small celebration. Apartments shrank, balconies disappeared, but the / memory did not. We made this for the people who still want their home to smell like that hour - when the day softens and the jasmine starts.
