Engineer's Day 2019: जगभरात वेगवेगळ्या तारखेला *अभियंता दिन (Engineer's Day)* साजरा केला जातो. भारतात अभियंता दिन हा *15 सप्टेंबरला* साजरा होतो. 15 सप्टेंबर हा प्रसिद्ध अभियंते आणि राजकीय व्यक्तिमत्व होते *मोक्षगुंडम विश्वैश्वरय्या* (Mokshagundam Visvesvaraya) यांचा जन्मदिवस आहे. विश्वैश्वरय्या यांच्या कार्याची दखल घेत भारत सरकारने त्यांना *'भारत रत्न'* पुरस्काराने गौरविले. तसेच, त्यांच्या कार्याचा गौरव म्हणून त्यांचा जन्म दिन हा *अभियंता दिन (Engineer's Day)* म्हणून साजरा करण्याचे ठरवले.

*कोण आहेत सर मोक्षगुंडम विश्वेश्वरैया? नेमका का साजरा केला जातो अभियंता दिन. घ्या जाणून...*

सर मोक्षगुंडम विश्वेश्वरैया यांचा जन्म कर्नाटक राज्यातील *मैसूर* जिल्ह्यात एका तेलुगु कुटुंबात झाला. *15 सप्टेंबर 1861* हा सर मोक्षगुंडम विश्वेश्वरैया यांचा जन्मदिवस. मोक्षगुंडम यांच्या वडीलांचे नाव श्रीनिवास शास्त्री तर आईचे नाव वेंकाचम्मा असे होते. त्यांचे वडील संस्कृत विषयाचे तज्ज्ञ होते. विश्वेश्वरैया यांनी आपले प्रारंभीक शिक्षण आपल्या जन्मगावीच पूर्ण केले. मात्र, पुढील शिक्षणासाठी त्यांना बेंगलुरु येथील सेंट्रल काँलेज जावे लागले. आर्थिक टंचाईमुळे त्यांना आपल्या शिक्षणात संघर्ष करावा लागला. शिक्षणासाठी पैसे उभे करण्यासाठी विश्वेश्वरयां यांनी खासगी शिकवणी घेणे सुरु केले. त्यातून मिळणाऱ्या आर्थिक मोबदल्यातून त्यांनी आपले शिक्षण पूर्ण केले.

सर मोक्षगुंडम विश्वेश्वरैया 1881 बीए परिक्षा प्रथम श्रेणीत उत्तीर्ण झाले. पुढे त्यांच्या शिक्षणाची जबाबदारी मैसूर सरकारने उचलली. त्यांनी पुणे येथील सायन्स कॉलेजमधून अभियात्रिकी विषयाचे शिक्षण पूर्ण केले. इथेही ते प्रथम श्रेणीत उत्तीर्ण झाले. त्यांचे गुण आणि कौशल्य पाहून सरकारने त्यांना *नाशिक* येथे सहाय्यक अभियंता पदावर सेवेत दाखल करुन घेतले.

स्वतंत्र्यपूर्व भारतात कृष्ण सागर धरण, भद्रावती आयरन अँण्ड स्टील वर्क्स, मैसूर सैंडल ऑयल अँण्ड सोप फॅक्ट्री, मैसूर विश्वविद्यालय, बँक ऑफ मैसूर अशा विविध इमारती आणि धरणं ही विश्वैश्वरय्या यांच्या कार्याची पावती ठरली. त्यांचे कार्य पाहून त्यांना कर्नाटकच्या विकासाचा भागीरत म्हणूनही ओळखले जाते.

*विश्वैश्वरय्या यांच्याबद्दल सांगितला जाणारा किस्सा...*

स्वतंत्र्यपूर्व भारतातील हा किस्सा आहे. एकदा विश्वैश्वरय्या हे इंग्रज अधिकाऱ्यां सोबत ट्रेनमधून प्रवास करत होते. ट्रेनमधील इतर प्रवासी त्यांची खिल्ली उडवत होते. विश्वैश्वरय्या यांचा पोशाख आणि दिसण्यावरुन ते खिल्ली उडवत होते. दरम्यान, विश्वैश्वरय्या यांनी ट्रेनची साखळी अचानक खेचली. ट्रेन तत्काळ थांबली. ट्रेनमधील इतर प्रवासी विश्वैश्वरय्या यांना बोलू लागले. ट्रेनमधील पोलीस विश्वैश्वरय्या यांना विचारते झाले. साखळी का खेचली. मग विश्वैश्वरय्या यांनी सांगितले की, इथून पुढे साधारण एक किलोमीटर अंतरावर रुळ तुटला आहे. त्यामुळे मी साखळी खेचली. सुरुवातील त्यांच्या बोलण्यावर कोणी विश्वास ठेवला नाही. पुढे जाऊन खरोखरच खात्री करुन घेतली असता रुळ तुटलेल्या आवस्थेत आढळला. यावर सर्वांनीच आश्चर्याने विचारले की, आपल्याला हे कसे कळले. यावर विश्वैश्वरय्या म्हणाले की, मी पेशाने अभियंता आहे. त्यानंतर विश्वैश्वरय्या जे प्रसिद्ध झाले. ते आज तागायत त्यांच्या कार्याचे जगभर कौतुक केले जाते.
