What does the future of warehousing look like for a cosmetics manufacturer?
I found myself thinking about this question after attending the 20th Edition of the National Warehousing Excellence Summit 2026, organised by the CII β Institute of Logistics on 7 August at Taj Santacruz, Mumbai.
What stood out to me was how quickly warehousing is moving beyond simply storing and moving products.
AI-powered warehouse management, automation, computer vision, IoT-enabled tracking, digital systems and smarter infrastructure are changing the way businesses think about inventory and supply chains.
The discussions around sustainable infrastructure and specialised operations were equally interesting. Energy efficiency, green practices, cold-chain capabilities and real-time monitoring are no longer just future possibilities. They are becoming increasingly important for businesses that want to build efficient and responsible operations.
For me, this has a very direct connection with Glint Cosmetics.
In the cosmetics and personal-care business, what happens after manufacturing is just as important as what happens on the production floor. Thousands of products need to be stored correctly, tracked accurately, quality-controlled, dispatched on time and, increasingly, made traceable across the supply chain.
As we grow, efficiency cannot depend only on people working harder. It has to come from building smarter systems.
That is perhaps my biggest takeaway from the summit.
Technology is not valuable simply because it is new. It is valuable when it helps us reduce errors, improve visibility, make better decisions and build an operation that can scale without compromising quality.
The summit was also a wonderful opportunity to listen to people from across the logistics and supply-chain ecosystem and to look at our own operations with a fresh perspective.
You don't always come back from a conference with answers. Sometimes, you come back with better questions.
And those questions are often what lead a business towards its next stage of growth.
