March is Mental Health Awareness Month and as such I would like to share with you some ways I cope with my mental health issues.
I have lived with dark shadows for as long as I can remember, and would often go into deep abysses of darkness before I found yoga or before yoga found me 🧘🏽♀️ .
Yoga has helped me immensely! It taught me how to breathe. When those familiar feelings of a racing heart, fingers crawling at skin, my mind going dark,,, I breathe. .
Other ways that have helped me is studying the yin aspects of yoga. My teacher helped me to find the mindfulness in every breath passing uninhibited into every tight area of my body. It is for this reason that I’m currently studying to become a registered teacher of specialty yin yoga to assist others who also need an outlet for all that they carry inside.
Another beautiful outlet is journaling. Have you ever journaled? Unlike a diary, a journal can be anything you wish it to be. Mine changes day by day. Sometimes I write down my pain. Other days I write things I’m truly grateful for. It allows my mind to speak when I dare not speak aloud the thoughts. .
I also feel greatly comforted by soft nurturing scents such as lavender. I often burn lavender incense and sit in quietness. I adore my meditation cushion from that is filled with lavender scented buckwheat! It is a friend to me in the darkest hours. .
