CLERODENDRUM THOMSONIAE aka Bleeding Heart Vine

đź’ˇFUN FACT FIRST: They get their common name from the spectacular flowers which look like a drop of red blood exuding from the heart-shaped calyx.

A species of flowering plant in the genus Clerodendrum of the family Lamiaceae, this tropical, bushy, twining vine is popular for its dark green foliage and long lasting, bicolor flowers in clusters of 8-20 - they are made up of a corolla of bright red petals that emerge from a white calyx.

Clerodendrum Thomsoniaes require medium maintenance and bright sunlight in order to bloom well all year round. In fact, pruning after blooming along with fertilizers encourage vigorous blooming.

Grow them as a vine for arches, fences, pillars and old trees or in hanging baskets or simply place them in containers with some support. In addition to rarely being attacked by pests and insects, they are a rich source of nectar so small birds and butterflies will happily visit your garden.

CANNA VARIEGATED

From the family Cannaceae, here's one of the most flamboyant perennials to give your garden the perfect tropical look. Plant them along walls or hedges, in garden beds or in containers for a pop of color.
