Dear all,

It is with a very heavy heart that we share the news of the sad demise of Samik Kanti Chakraborty, our alumnus and a beloved member of the debating community.

Samik was an active debater and a member of the NUJS Literary and Debating Society (LDS) ever since he started law school in 2005.
He travelled to Pakistan in 2006 for the Shahjiwana Debate Tournament in Lahore and went on to become the Co-Convenor of the LDS for the year 2007-08. He created an active debating culture, mentoring and inspiring many at NUJS and other universities in the city. Samik went on to become an exemplary debater and had many accolades to his name. Among others, in 2008, Samik was one of the top 10 speakers at the NLS debate, and his team (with Raghuveer Parthasarathy and Uday Joshi) broke into the All Asians Tournament in Dhaka. Samik was a core adjudicator and a key organiser of the first NUJS international debate in 2009 - he was instrumental in bringing in several international teams and ensuring high quality debates, thus setting a high bar for years to come.

Most of all, those who debated with Samik will always remember how enjoyable it was to engage with him and spend time after, regardless of whether they were in his team or the opposition.

He will be deeply missed by all who have had the privilege of knowing him, and his memory will continue to inspire budding debaters for the years to come.

We are extremely excited and proud to announce a real feather in the cap of NUJS debating!

The Monash Australasian Inter-Varsity Debating Championship, hosted by the Monash Association of Debaters is one of the most prestigious debating championships in the world.
This edition of the tournament witnessed participation from over 130 teams from all across the globe.

The team comprising of Sudiksha Ravi Abishek Sankar and Kanishk Garg broke in the open category and made it till the partial double octa-finals at the tournament.

Ayushi Thakur broke as an adjudicator and judged all out-rounds up to the ESL final at the Melbourne Pre-Australs.

We congratulate them on their outstanding performance!
