Even on the rainiest days, there are a few familiar faces who still find their way to us, for a little comfort food, a cup of coffee, or simply a place to sit and watch the rain.

We’ve never believed cafés have to be fancy. Sometimes, it’s the familiarity of a place, the food you already love, and the feeling of being at ease that brings you back.

Everything on our menu is shaped by what we genuinely enjoy ourselves, and perhaps that’s what makes it feel familiar to you too.

Kolkata’s monsoon is a lovely reminder of this. Even when the skies are grey and the city is far from picture perfect, there’s so much comfort to be found in a simple cup of coffee. And for that, we're here.

Art Cafe × Paromita Banerjee

For over a decade, Paromita Banerjee has been exploring what happens when Indian handloom, craft and contemporary design meet. Working closely with weaving and craft communities across the country, her practice begins at the loom, where fabrics are developed with intention before becoming garments and objects that feel both rooted and modern.

Her design language is understated yet distinctive, with a quiet influence of Japanese minimalism and a belief in clothing that moves beyond seasons and trends.

At the heart of her work is Boro, the idea of being “too good to waste.” Fabric remnants from past collections are given another life as bags, notebooks, kimonos, buttons and other one-of-a-kind pieces. Nothing is treated as merely leftover; every fragment carries a story.

It is this shared appreciation for the rooted, the authentic and the locally made that makes the collaboration feel so natural.

A few days back in Kalimpong reminded us that Art Cafe was never born inside four walls. It was shaped by the mountains, conversations at the local haat, the peacefulness in the monasteries, and ingredients that carry the stories of the hills.

Before there was a café, there was a way of looking at food—with patience, curiosity, and deep respect for where it comes from.

We came back to where it all began.
Not to relive the past,
but to remember what must never be left behind.

The roots are still here.
They just happen to have gathered wings from Kalimpong to Kolkata. 🌿

We often judge a meal by its outcome.

But outcomes are products of systems.

Where ingredients come from. How they're handled. What gets made from scratch. Which shortcuts are refused.

The plate is simply where the system becomes visible.

The heart of a kitchen isn't just the recipes.

Our kitchen in Kolkata is shaped by the flavours of the Himalayas. The ingredients we cook with have been a part of mountain homes for generations, bringing depth, balance and character to everyday food.

They're not here to be different.

They're here because this is the food we believe in.

A little piece of the Himalayas, served every day in Kolkata.

Some things are overrated, while this is one of the things that’s underrated.

Hidden in the heart of Park Street, Cafe Mueller by Art Cafe offers something increasingly rare — a little breathing room. Step onto the terrace and the noise of the city seems to fade away, replaced by old-world architecture, open skies, and an unhurried pace.

And with the rains making regular appearances these days, the view takes on a different mood. A seat by the window, a cup of coffee or mango juice, and the quiet rhythm of rain against the city outside. Not a bad way to spend an afternoon.
