I take a deep breath and take a seat at our favourite spot. It was a cute booth in this café near our college. The booth was outside the actual café but still on the café premises.
I still remember the first time we met there. We were both there with some friends who had stayed back after college. He had this semi-introvert semi-extrovert personality. I noticed him because of his bizarre, lame and yet somehow funny jokes.
And I guess it was these jokes that brought me close to him. The next time that we met here was in this booth. We left college, and it started raining heavily, so I came running here to be under the shed, and he was already there, doing the same.
It was the first time we had met without friends, so we both smiled a little in acknowledgement and stood in silence. To my good luck, this happened a few times that month. We both would come, stand in silence, and leave when the rains stopped. But the awkward silence had turned to a comfortable silence.
One day I had to stay back in college to wait for a friend. I decided to wait for my friend in that booth. I was busy and frustrated with a stupid math problem when he walked in and said “Oh so you’re not a rain specie, Because I thought I could meet you only when it rains.”
And that’s how with that stupid line, I invited him to this table. After that day this spot became our go-to place. Anytime that the two of us wanted to really talk to each other we would come down here.
From exchanging numbers to exchanging gifts, from sneaky glances to sneaky kisses, from valentines to Navratri, from fighting for being late to make up after the fight, from my I love you to his will you be my girlfriend, from happiness to sadness this place had seen it all.
And I guess this is why I selected this place today. Because it had been a while since we both came out here and really talked. Since this place saw the biggest change we had in the last six years I want this place to be a witness to the change that will last forever.
He comes in with his head down, takes a seat and sighs. I think it was a sigh of relief as if it took him forever to get here.....
