Stop scratching your aquarium glass with metal scrapers! Try THIS hack instead 🧼✨💧

Some algae on the glass is completely normal in a healthy ecosystem, but keeping your view crystal clear doesn't have to break the bank or risk scratching your tank!

The Hack:
I use standard filter floss / polywool (the kind used in aquarium filters) to wipe away glass algae! 🧪

🧵 Soft yet abrasive: Tough enough to wipe off green spot algae, but soft enough that it will NEVER scratch glass or acrylic.

✋ Pro-Tip: Roll a small clump tightly between your palms first! This prevents loose fibers from floating into the water.

🌀 Clean easily: Pinch it tight and wipe in circular motions for a streak-free, crystal-clear finish.

Is your planted tank turning into an overgrown jungle? 🌿✂️

Overgrowth isn't a bad thing, but regular trimming is the key to keeping your aquascape healthy and balanced!

Why you should trim your stem plants:

🌿 Bushier Growth: Cutting stem plants encourages side shoots, making your plants grow in thicker and bushier.

💡 Better Light Pe*******on: Trimming top foliage lets light reach the lower leaves so the whole plant stays vibrant.

🐠 Happy Fish: Clears up open swimming space for your fish (my koi betta loves the extra room!).

✨ Clean Aesthetic: Keeps your tank looking deliberate, intentional, and well-maintained.

A little trim really does go a long way! ✂️🌿

Why are my red aquarium plants losing all their bottom leaves? 🚨🍂

While taking photos of my planted tank, I noticed my Alternanthera reineckii was only growing leaves at the very top and dropping everything below!

The Cause:
Floating plants and tall background species (Vallisneria, Bolbitis, and Anubias) were completely blocking the light from reaching the lower stems! High-light red plants need intense light down to the base to stay bushy and red.

The Fix:
I trimmed off the healthy tops and relocated the cuttings to my high-light shallow bowl setup where they'll get all the light they need! 💡✂️

Giving my miniature moss cube the ultimate rebuild! 🌲✨🪨

My tiny moss forest grew completely wild over the last few months, so it was time for a fresh new look!

The Rebuild Breakdown:

🪵 Remove & Reset: Pulled out the overgrown manzanita wood and trimmed the moss short so it can grow back super lush.

🪨 Ditch the Aquasoil: Switched from aquasoil to fine gravel—moss absorbs nutrients from the water column, so it doesn't need soil!

🏖️ Sand Path Detail: Added a fine white sand path through the center to create depth and a miniature forest trail effect.

💧 Refill: Poured in fresh water over a paper towel to keep the sand path crisp and pristine!

It looks so much cleaner now and I can't wait to watch the forest grow back in! 🌿✨

Turned this thrift store glass bowl into a hanging window ecosystem! 🪟🌱✨

I found this stunning glass bowl at a thrift store and knew immediately it would make the ultimate hanging planted bowl!

The Build Process:

🪴 Nutrient Layer: Added a solid 2-inch layer of rich aqua soil to give the roots everything they need.

🌺 The Star Plant: Planted Lobelia cardinalis—can’t wait for it to grow emersed out of the bowl and bloom those vibrant red flowers!

💧 Fill & Clear: Carefully filled it up without disturbing the substrate and let it settle.

🧺 Hanging Display: Placed it in a macramé hanger right by the window to soak up natural sunlight.

BEFORE vs. AFTER rescape! 🔄🌿

Resetting my tank with some incredible new species from Tropica:

🪴 The Test: Rotala wallichii (wish me luck with this difficult one!)

🩸 The Color: Rotala rotundifolia 'Blood Red'

🌾 The Lawn: Fresh carpeting plants taking over the foreground.

Supported by CO2 and good lighting can’t wait to watch these grow in! 💥

Maintenance day for the mini planted bowl! 🫙🌱✨

While doing a water change on my main tank, I noticed my little planted bowl under the shelf needed some love! Here is how I give this low-tech setup a quick refresh:

The Routine:

🧪 Pipette Cleaning: Siphoned out debris and old water using a pipette.

✂️ Trimming & Replanting: Pruned stem plants and replanted cuttings to keep it lush.

🪥 Algae Scrub: Used my trusty electric toothbrush tool to clear algae off the rocks and glass!

💧 Refill: Placed it back under its halo light and topped it off with fresh water.

Low-tech planted bowls are easily some of the most satisfying setups to maintain! 🌿✨

Stop failing at hairgrass! Here is what FINALLY worked for me… 🌾🫙✨

After failing multiple times, I finally cracked the secret to growing lush dwarf hairgrass in a no-filter, low-tech bowl:

The 5 Secrets to Success:

🧪 Tissue Cultures: Start with lab-grown tissue culture plants—they adapt to new water parameters much faster!

✂️ Small Portions: Separate the grass into small 1 cm clumps before planting.

🪴 Fine Aqua Soil: Used Tropica Powder/Fine Aqua Soil so delicate roots can anchor easily.

📌 Plant Deep: Plant deep into the soil leaving only the green tips exposed.

🌊 Zero Flow: Hairgrass hates being pushed around! Low/no-flow environments help roots establish without stress.

No CO2, no root tabs, and no liquid ferts needed—sometimes less really is more! 💯

When your automatic feeder dumps WAY too much food while you’re away... 😱🐟

Came home to an absolute mess in Latias’s tank! 😅 One of my automatic feeders dropped way too much food, leaving the substrate covered in moldy leftover pellets.

How I cleaned it up:

🧼 Siphoned out the excess food sitting at the bottom before it spiked ammonia levels.

🛠️ DIY Clean-up Tool: Used my custom tool to carefully pull out lingering mold and debris without disturbing the plants or scaring Latias!
