Today is World Book Day.

It’s also the fifth day of the total shutdown in Manipur, but we’ve opened our bookstore anyway. No conflict should stop us from reading.

On the second day of Yaoshang i.e. 4th March at 2 PM, we’re hosting an open-mic and impromptu poetry at Ukiyo Bookstore's sidewalk.

We’ve always felt that everyone is a poet in some way. Some of us write in diaries. Some in phone notes. Some in long messages we never send. Some don’t write at all, but the lines are there - in the way we think, in the way we remember.

This is open to all ages. School students, college students, people who work all day, parents, elders. You can read something you’ve written. You can try the impromptu round. Or you can just sit and listen.

There will be prizes as well.

If you’ve been carrying a few lines quietly, bring them.

Some glimpses from the Korean Literature Festival Imphal 2026.

It indeed takes a village to organise a literature festival. We are grateful to our authors, moderators, partners, volunteers and readers for showing up and making the festival possible.

The complete schedule for the Korean Literature Festival Imphal 2026 is now out.

We begin at 9:30 am and close at 3:30 pm, with writers and speakers from Korea and Manipur in conversation throughout the day.

Korean Literature Festival Imphal 2026.
The first of its kind in the city.

In the early 2000s, when Hindi movies and songs were banned in Manipur, many of us turned to Korean television. Over time, Korean dramas, music, and fashion shaped popular culture in the region.

This festival begins from that history.

We are now taking the initiative to introduce Korean literature in Imphal by bringing Korean authors to the city, along with Manipuri writers and a focus on translation and cultural exchange.

Organised in collaboration with The Ink & Quill Collective () under Project Bhasha, and the Literature Translation Institute of Korea ( ), as part of India Literary Tour 2026 - Indo-Korean Edition.

Yesterday went really well.

The Imphal launch of "Colour My Grave Purple" opened up memories, questions, and lived experiences that felt important to listen to. Thank you to Shehnab Sahin and Davidson Kumam for the generosity of their words, and to everyone who came by, sat down, and made the afternoon feel complete.
