Kitki

Kitki Kitki was started by alumni of BITS-Pilani,to change the perception of learning through board games!

We are currently designing board games that are a lot of fun by themselves, but at the same time, are set in an educational context. Three Sticks is our first board game that is based on the principles of geometry. Along with Three Sticks, we currently have two more games - Operation Escape E.V.I.L (based on Chemistry) and Samrat (based on History). Do check out our website - www.kitki.in/boardgames for more details.

Tangram Ganesha 💚

Ganesha, the supreme lord of intelligence and wisdom is our inspiration for this week's activity, which is open ended and designed to enhance the creative side of your little ones.💚

All you need is some cutouts of right angle triangles.

We used some old A4 sized painted sheets.
Fold a sheet of paper into squares and then diagonally to make right angled triangles. Cut them and you are ready!

Did you know that you can use a combination of right angled triangles to make any multi-sided shape? Try arranging them to make your own Ganesha. Together, identify the different shapes that are formed in the process.

You can even frame your master piece at the end of the activity 💚

Would love to see your unique Ganesha creations. Do tag and when you share as we would love to see 💚

Happy Ganesh Chaturthi!

A super cool way to make smoke rings. All you need is a plastic jar, balloon, scissors, matches and some incense sticks.

Alternatively, you could also use just a plastic bottle with a narrow opening and skip the balloon. We didn't have any, hence the jar 💁. Do this with your kids and have fun making some spooky ghosts out of it!

Science behind it:
A smoke ring is commonly formed when a puff of smoke is suddenly injected into clear air, especially through a narrow opening. The outer parts of the puff are slowed down by the still air (or by edges of the opening) relative to the central part, imparting it the characteristic doughnut flow pattern.

Fun experiments you can do with kids at home to understand static electricity.
Things you will need: Balloon, Paper Bits

Science behind it : Rubbing the balloon over dry hair moves electrons (negative charge) from your hair onto the balloon surface.
So when you place it on the wall, the electrons on the wall rearrange to create a positive charge in that area. This attracts the balloon and sticks it to the wall.
The negative charge on balloons can also move small light objects like paper, soda can, etc.
The same negative charge makes your hair stand too.

DIY WATER FOUNTAIN

Let's beat the heat with some water play week! 😃
All you need is a balloon, plastic bottle, and some water. Watch the video to know how and create some magic. .
Science behind it:
Once you release the finger from the hole in the bottle, air enters inside to balance the atmospheric pressure. At the same time the balloon starts deflating and pushes the water outside the hole in the cap, creating a beautiful water fountain.

All you need are some tea bags and match sticks. Just cut and empty the tea bags and make them stand in such a way that there is a hollow space inside. Light them up on the top and watch them soar.

Science behind it:
When the tea bag burns, the air inside the hollow of the bag gets heated up. Since the tea bag is so light it rises along with the hot air and appears to fly.

GIANT BUBBLES

We made some bubbles last week. Big Giant Bubbles !

We used a Detachable Seive ( atta channi) as you can see. Ideally any big smooth closed loop should work. Circular loop is not mandatory. Maybe a shirt hanger would give similar output.

Our experiments:
1.Liquid soap + water (1:2) - popped too early
2.Liquid soap + sugar syrup (1:2) : big bubbles.
3.Liquid soap + water + corn flour (2:4:1) - stayed longer
4.Liquid soap + corn flour + sugar syrup (2:1:4) - biggest bubbles.
5.Liquid soap + water + 1 spoon glycerine ( didn't have, so didn't try) - supposed to be best

Sugar syrup recipe: Boil 3 spoons sugar in half glass water till it melts. You might want to dilute it if is too thick. Also keep altering proportions slightly as it depends a lot on weather.

The idea is to keep the moisture intact within the bubble so that it doesn't pop too easily. Liquid dish wash like VIM is better than handwash.

You can apply coconut oil on your hands, legs and face to protect the skin, just in case. Eyewear is optional. If you are doing this in an open space it should be fine.

Try your own concoctions. Older kids may come up with their own ideas of what to mix, how much and which household tools to use to make bubbles. Let them hypothesise, experiment and use logical and creative thinking while having fun.

Would love to hear your experiments making giant bubbles. Do tag us if you try :)
