During Prime Minister Narendra Modi's bilateral visit to Italy, the two countries officially upgraded their relationship to a Special Strategic Partnership and set a goal to boost trade to €20 billion by 2029.

The key agreements signed include:

Defence:
A roadmap for the co-development and co-production of military hardware, plus a pact to counter financial crimes and money laundering.

Technology:
Pacts to cooperate on critical minerals, semiconductors, and AI, including establishing a joint Innovation Center in India.

Healthcare & Mobility:
A major deal to facilitate the recruitment of Indian nurses to work in Italy, alongside an agreement to promote Ayurveda.

Infrastructure & Trade:
An MoU to boost maritime logistics (tied to the India-Middle East-Europe Economic Corridor) and agreements to expand Indian seafood exports.

Education & Culture:
A roadmap for student and research exchange, and the declaration of 2027 as the India-Italy Year of Culture and Tourism.

Who is Sibi George?🤔

Sibi George is a senior Indian diplomat from the 1993 batch of the Indian Foreign Service (IFS). He currently serves as the Secretary (West) in the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), India.

He is originally from Kerala's Kottayam district (Pala). He is a double gold medalist in his graduation and post-graduation studies. He has trained at elite institutions including the American University in Cairo, IIM Ahmedabad, and the Indian School of Business (ISB).

Ambubachi Mela 2026:

This year, the annual Ambubachi Mela will take place from June 22 to June 26, 2026.

The Closing (Pravritti): The doors of the Kamakhya Temple will close on the night of June 22 (corresponding to the 7th day of the Assamese month of Ahaar) to mark the commencement of the goddess's menstruation phase.

The Reopening (Nivritti): The temple doors will ceremonially reopen at sunrise on June 26, allowing devotees and pilgrims to gather for darshan and receive sacred blessings.
