No, I haven’t just woken up to the existence of 2022. I’m celebrating the Chinese New Year (CNY) - year of the Tiger 🐯 

The official dates for CNY are Tuesday and Wednesday but the celebrations generally go on for a week, with families getting together for meals and visiting relatives. Gong Xi Fa Cai and happy holidays! 🎊

Presenting to you my Feb hopefuls:

♥️ Atlas of the Heart - I’m slowly savouring this wonderful atlas to our many many emotions. Hoping to go beyond the words “happy/ sad/ angry” when describing and understanding emotions, and consequently getting better at dealing with the identified emotions.

🐅 The Punkhawala and The Pr******te - One of my current reads to usher in the year of the tiger is this book which features tigers, sadly in the context of hunting but such was life in 1890s Singapore.

🚪Under the Whispering Door - Another one of my current reads though I’m still debating how I feel about this hyped book!

💕 The Spanish Love Deception - February is also the month of love so our bookclub pick is another hyped book. Always a skeptic when it comes to romance but I hope this one works its charm on my cold heart!

🧘‍♀️ The Daily Stoic - This is my year long project and I’m reading one page a day like a good kiddo. I shall talk more about this one in an upcoming post!

🌚 That Night - Another (who am I?!), though this one is a thriller!

🧚‍♀️ Once More Upon a Time - I am still not over Beasts and Beauty so I had to add another fairytale to my reading list.

🌸as one of my most anticipated reads, how to kill your family has been sat on my tbr pile for months now, perhaps I was worried after seeing so much hype on booksta that it would not live up to the hype? However, I was wrong what a book this was!! Imagine being in prison for a crime you did not commit, well this is exactly the situation that Grace Bernard is in. However, she isn’t exactly innocent as she has murdered six members of her family and nobody knows it was her. Grace is a brilliant character and although she is a murderer she is SO likeable and you find yourself rooting for her almost agreeing with the reasoning behind each murder?How to kill your family has so much wit and dark humour, with such a twist at the end that I did not see coming! I loved how grace tells her story and how the chapters flick from the past to the present, for me the only downside was that there were some long chapters, but other than that it’s a great book!! Definitely one for you all to pick up!

fyi this book does not tell you how to kill your family, it is however a fantastic piece of fiction written by bella mackie for her debut novel.

What a book it is.

To be honest, I haven't watched badminton ever on TV and also didn't know about Gopichand prior to reading this book. But now, I have to say, this book will be among the top recommendations to all aspiring athletes. I have heard that Priya Kumar's storytelling skills are good but, this good!! I felt like I was living those moments, along with Mr. Gopichand. It was thatttt good. So hard to stop if you start it once.

Although this book focuses on the journey of Badminton Star, Pullela Gopichand, the lessons and grit are not specific to Badminton. This book is more like a guide on how to be a champion. How several factors of life play a crucial role to create a champion.

I just loved this book and highly highly recommend getting a copy. The lessons about life, sports, grit, discipline, are invaluable in this book.

Wow, what a beautiful book! I now understand why so many of you love it. There is so much to unpack about this story:

This book has a little bit of everything. It’s a wonderful coming of age story with a few romances along the way, lyrical writing and a crime that continues until the last chapter. It is a celebration of nature, the authors background is very apparent and shines through the words. The descriptions of the earth, animals and land were stunning and I loved the little facts sprinkled throughout.

Kya is certainly a character that will remain with me for a long time. It broke my heart that her circumstances left her so alone and isolated, having only the land and animals as company for the majority of her life. Her strength and courage during an unimaginable childhood (and life) was so heroic and brave. And the ending!!! 👏🏻👏🏻

I cannot wait for the adaptation of this one. If you are yet to read this one, PLEASE do. Don’t be like me and wait longer than necessary to enjoy it 🤍

Synopsis
