Parle Agro launched Frooti in 1985 as India’s first tetra-packed fruit drink. It didn’t just create a product, it created a category. And then held onto it for decades. The lesson? Own the format before anyone else thinks to.

Desi Disruptors: Timeless Lessons from Iconic Indian Brands by Vikrant Pande (IIM Bangalore alumnus) is a lively, insight-driven account of how some of India’s most iconic brands- Vicks, Maggi, Whisper, Frooti, Tanishq, Jockey, Thums Up, Lenskart, and more- rewired consumer behaviour and created entire markets by gauging what people felt and needed even before they themselves knew it.

Mr. Pande came to the bookstore over the weekend and the signed copies truly deserved to be on your weekend read!

A book launch shouldn't just be a reading. It should be a revelation. 👇

On June 19th, we are opening the doors to The Shadow Audit—the official launch event for The Gift of the Witch.

But we aren't just handing you a book. and I are going to show you exactly how the human nervous system operates when a connection gets too close.

Here is exactly what is going to happen inside the room:

♟️ THE DUET: A live, high-tension psychological sparring match. Satvika and I will voice the characters of Lera and Rishi, demonstrating the exact moment an avoidant attachment style collides with a savior complex.

🧠 THE MASTERCLASS: We break the fourth wall. We will clinically deconstruct the dialogue you just heard using neuroscience, quantum physics, and Vedic philosophy. You will leave understanding exactly why we build walls and call them boundaries.

📖 THE ARTIFACT: The unveiling of the physical book. I will be signing the strictly limited First Edition print run (only 500 copies exist).

This is an invite-only, highly curated space. If you want to understand the mechanics of your own heart, you need to be in this room.

🔗 Hit the link in our bio to secure your First Edition copy and request your RSVP before the guest list is finalized.

My fascination with this book was that nobody let me read it. It was only when I was 16 years old that I picked up this book in the corner of this bookshop. I sat and read while sitting on a pile of books. I grew up on stories of migration, something in me reached out to little marjane with all her confusions.

It saddens me to no she no longer exists between us but me and the 16 year old version of me will remember her fondly forever.

RIP Marjane Satrapi ♥️

Books recommended for June from bookworld Dehradun !

The Ring of Truth, Wendy Doniger: cross-cultural mythology of jewelry, rings, necklaces, and gems-tracing their role in love, adultery, identity, and power across Sanskrit epics, Shakespeare, fairy tales, and Hollywood. Doniger reveals that while rings symbolise eternal, unbroken love, the stories surrounding them persistently prove that promise false. Endlessly entertaining yet deeply scholarly, it’s a book that makes you see an everyday object as a vessel of thousands of years of human longing.

The Presidential Pardon , Saikrishna Prakash: A constitutional law scholar traces how a brief clause in the US Constitution, originally a tool of mercy, has been transformed into one of the most politically charged and unchecked powers in modern governance. Through history and sharp analysis, Prakash argues we have entered a “pardon dystopia” where personal loyalty and political reward drive presidential decisions. Essential reading for anyone trying to understand how power quietly erodes the rule of law.

Baatein Kanoon Ki, Manasi Chaudhari: An award-winning lawyer and women’s rights advocate breaks down Indian law in plain, accessible language, covering everything from workplace harassment and domestic abuse to cyber safety, inheritance, and marriage. Grounded in real-life examples and practical remedies, it’s designed to turn legal confusion into confident self-advocacy. For any woman navigating Indian society, this book is less a read and more a toolkit.

The Calamity Club, Kathryn Stockett: Stockett’s long-awaited follow-up to The Help is set in Depression-era Mississippi, where three very different women-an outspoken outsider, an abused orphan, and a woman with nothing left to lose, form an unlikely and audacious sisterhood. Hilarious and heartbreaking in equal measure, it captures the impossible choices women faced in a world stacked against them.

When I was four years old in 2000. Mr. Mehera from Rupa Books was having tea with my father here in Dehradun at Bookworld. And I just… asked. Can I meet Ruskin Bond?
And the next day, he was there. Fifty kids showed up at the bookstore. Samosas from Gupta Samosa Store. Cold drinks in glass bottles. We were so happy. He’s grown older. I’ve grown older. The store has grown older. We’ve all gotten wiser. We’ve all gotten… a little rounder. But isn’t that the sign of a good memory — eating as much cake as you like?

Happy birthday Mr.Bond!

Love from Bookworld.

We would love it if you guys could share photos you may have with with us, feel free to send via DM!

As someone who also used to be 9 years old, standing in line hoping for a signature in their slam book from Ruskin Bond, life has come a long way.

and we threw the cutest birthday party for Ruskin Bond’s 93rd birthday, also launching his latest book All Time Favorite Friendship Stories, inviting children from all over Dehradun, reviving our own memories of pineapple cake, patties and frooti dabbas.
