The legend of Bedi Hanuman is a beautiful story of duty vs. devotion. Lord Jagannath appointed Hanuman to guard the coastline and stop the sea (Varuna) from entering the holy town of Puri.
But Hanuman Ji loved Lord Jagannath so much that he would often sneak away from his post to visit the main temple and enjoy the Mahaprasad! 🥥 Whenever he left, the sea would creep in and cause damage.
To ensure the town remained safe, Lord Jagannath ordered Hanuman to be tied with chains ('Bedi') to the shore. Today, he stands here as the eternal guardian, Darya Mahavir, protecting Puri from the ocean's fury. 🌊
