A home garden workshop this Sunday at Seeragam - The Native Store

A 2 hour discussion on anything from starting a simple garden at home till how we can manage the plants at home in a simple way :-) We have decided on limited people and space. So if interested call the number given.

Also Seeragam is a nice space with a lot of handmade home products.

Phytoremediation - A natural way of cleaning sewage and kitchen waste water.

93% of fresh water gets converted into waste water. STP solutions have become very costly in terms of installation and maintenance.

How about a natural solution to clean water using plants and trees?

That is exactly what Phytoremediation is.

We used this method and ran trials in a manufacturing company. Using simple native plants we are able to achieve

1. Reduce the levels of TDS.
2. Achieve PH balance.
3. Slide removal automatic and close to normal water color restored.
4. Remove the smell and odour.

The trail was done using 20 litres bubble top containers. Native variety of plants like Cana Indica and Cyprus Papyrus to name a few.

Clay pot cooking is something we know and buy. How about clay ovens.

This clay oven has been in existence under the sun for the last 50 years and cooking is still done. No monsoon or varadha had disturbed it.

Says proudly the home maker "my forefathers were born and died next to this oven. Their birth and last rites were done from this oven and this guy still loves"

It is always a difficult task on choosing the right kind of materials for building our home. The challenge is in trying to look for local, native, sustainable and a natural source that can be a part of our living.

Bamboo is a renewable source and unlike other timber it has the capability to grow in a very short period. Not just that the qualities of bamboo brings unique advantages to the environment around it.

Praying God we started on this important mission yesterday.
