Mani Made

Mani Made Beautiful objects of colors, sketches, ornaments, and home decor A crafty girl? I like to say artsy. Pause a minute and look at these.

What started as a page to showcase some jewelry which I made as gifts for my friends for the Navarathri festival of 2012 is now a fledgling thriving outlet for my creativity. Each of these pieces has been made individually, carved, hand painted and glazed. Leave a comment about your thoughts on these. Most pieces are made out of Polymer Clay, a soft pliable polymer compound which solidifies under

moderate temperatures in an oven. Although fairly sturdy, polymer clay is susceptible to breakage too. Care Instructions:
Try not to wet or expose your jewel to water, strong perfumes, chemical based cleaners, soaps or detergents. You may use a soft cloth to clean your jewel if any spots of dirt are collected. Do not combine your Mani Made jewelry with other metal jewelry as contact with other sharp/hard/rough objects may damage/remove the paint/coating. Due to the nature of the clay, any jewelry made of polymer clay is fragile and needs to be handled with care. Polymer clay may not hold on to its paint as well as other clays. So, any paint could peel in small spots. To protect against this, Mani Made uses top varnish coats, however, we are unable to guarantee that paint will not peel. If such peeling happens, do not scratch or peel further. You may send back to Mani Made for repair or replacement, for a suitable fee. Refunds and Exchange:
Sufficient care is taken while packing to ensure your jewels reach you in perfect state, sometimes compromising on the beauty of the packaging to give you more sturdy packaging. However, damages may occur in transit and if such misfortune occurs upon your package, do inform me. Shipping charges are not refundable and is the responsibility of the buyer. Returns/Exchanges/Refunds on customized items are not possible. As Mani Made is a small one-woman company, we dont have the funds to bear these costs and are unable to provide free shipping or exchanges. Please do inform me if any issues arise and I will work with you to resolve to your satisfaction.

After many hours of admiring this Kirthimukha atop the Vimana of Thanjavur Periya Kovil, I decided to make a sketch. It was no easy task as the closeup zoom pictures are still a bit grainy and I kept looking at drone shots and freezing frames to see what the actual carving patterns are. I spent a nice obsessed weekend at the drawing table and am happy I made this. After all again I feel what I always feel. How did those sculptors make this a thousand years ago!! Simply breath taking and overwhelming even to imagine the design process!!

Aandaal : Soodi koduththa Sudar Kodi

As the month of Margazhi has rolled in, from Dec 15th to Jan 15th, Tamizh homes are resplendent with kolams and rangolis and the air is filled with the recitations of Aandals Pasurams. Aandaal is thw only female Vaishnavite Saint known as Azhwar. She was raised by another Azhwar Periazhwar.
Periazhwar (originally called Vishnuchithar) was an ardent devotee of Lord Vishnu, the Perumal, and would string garlands to the deity every day. He was childless and he prayed to God to save him from the longing. One day, he found a girl child under a Tulasi bush in a garden inside the temple. The child was goddess Mahalakshmi herself. He named the child as Kothai, who grew up to be a devotee of Lord Krishna, an avatar of Vishnu, the supreme God. Garlands, as all offerings to God are sacred and should not be worn or used before offering to God.. But Kothai would wear the garland and fantasize of exchanging it with Vishnu, as her groom. Periazhwar, who found out about this, was very upset and remonstrated her. Lord Vishnu appeared in his dream and insisted that he preferred only the garland worn by Aandaal! The girl Kothai was thus named Andal and was referred to as சூடிகொடுத்த சுடர்க்கொடி, or "Chudikodutha Sudarkodi" (the lady who wore and gave her garland) to Lord Vishnu. The practice is followed during modern times when the garland of Andal from Srivilliputhur Andal Temple is sent to Tirumala Venkateswara Temple on Garudotsavam during the Tamil month of Purattaasi and Azhagar Koyil during Chitra Pournami.
Here I have drawn Periyazhwar discovering Aandal secretly admiring herself in the mirror wearing the sacred garland meant for Vishnu!
