Anita Ratnam's critically acclaimed 'A Million Sitas' came to Kingsley as part of our Courtyard Evenings earlier this month. Here is a glimpse of a magical performance in a beautifully intimate setting.
In ‘A Million Sitas’, Anita Ratnam reclaims Sita and four other women characters of the Ramayana, exploring their identities and politics. She gives voice and agency to each of these characters - Mandodhari, Manthara, Surpanakha, Ahalya and Sita - bringing them out of the shadows and into the spotlight. Anita Ratnam uses every weapon in her creative arsenal to give life to ‘A Million Sitas’—voice, movement, song, dance, theatrical improvisation and storytelling.
We were honoured and delighted to host this incredible performance at Kingsley.

Esther, whose cakes, cookies and other goodies are an integral part of the Kingsley experience, is this month’s Kanakavalli Vignette.

“The sari has always been my garment,” says Esther Jasper, a home cook and baker whose array of delicious cookies, cakes and other goodies are the perfect interlude to your Kingsley experience. In January’s Vignette, Esther traces her food journey; from baking experiments with her mother to cooking up a storm for her children and their friends. Soft-spoken and gentle, Esther is always smiling, and is always draped in a beautiful sari – the garment she’s most comfortable in.

Step inside Kingsley...

The final edition of the Step Inside series features a glimpse into Kanakavalli's flagship store set within Kingsley, located in the heart of Chennai. Kingsley is a lovingly restored century-old family home built in the colonial style, with high ceilings, ornate columns and sprawling verandahs. It is an extraordinary space, not only because of the richness of its light and the magic of its ambience, but for the feeling of familiarity that it exudes. Despite its grandeur, it is warm and welcoming, the perfect setting for Kanakavalli's repertoire. With its classic black and white marble flooring, a gorgeous gazebo set within a courtyard, and antique pieces that become design features of the store, Kingsley transports you back in time, creating a truly luxurious shopping experience.
