There’s life that’s lived by millions in this country who lie at the tail end of their mortality, despite the endless emphasis on discourse revolving around our *demographic dividend peak*.

This month at Select, we have Aparna, a noted researcher in the field of senior living, who will be taking us through the bumpy landscape of elderly care in this country. Join us to learn about the numerous measures that exist in this country which many of us seldom pay heed to until it’s too late, alongside understanding what it takes to bridge the dissonance between need and have for the lovely people we know living in their golden years.

3:30 pm, this Sunday (21st September)

As always, all are welcome!

⏳ Sunday next (the 27th of July)
📍 : 71 1st Cross, Brigade Road, Bengaluru (See Maps for guidance)

Over the course of a year, Arvind Padmanabhan has penned beautiful haikus; musings on his everyday experiences in this lovely city of ours.
That he will be sharing with us a few of his works from his latest collection of poems,
"No Cherry Blossoms in My Haiku,"
alongside elaborating on the motifs that inspired him to pen them.

Great for if you enjoy a good poem or two, been meaning to write a few haikus yourself (this is an interactive session and Arvind will be taking us through some haiku essentials), or you're just keen on seeing the beauty and meaning in the little things around you.

As a child, she was sold by her parents due to their poverty to royal agents. Soon she became a courtesan by profession as she entered the royal harem as a Khawasin where she was promoted to a Pari and was known as Mahek Pari.

Subsequently, she became a Begum after being accepted as a royal concubine of the king of Awadh, the last Tajdaar-e-Avadh, Wajid Ali Shah.

Begum Hazrat Mahal, also known as Begum of Awadh, was one of India’s first female freedom fighters, who led the battle of India’s first freedom movement in 1857 against the British East India Company.

The Begum, a bold and brave woman, has marked her place in history as the only major female leader of Awadh. The brave Queen never surrendered to the British despite several troubles in her life, and even continued resisting the British Raj during her years of exile in Nepal.
