The Art of the Grift vs. The Art of the Gut 🎨🥘

This Saturday, the Republic hosts a double-feature for the hungry and the cynical.

We’re deconstructing the "walled garden" of the high-art elite and the "spare-parts" reality of the Indian stomach.
The Witnesses:

V. Sanjay Kumar: Here to perform a "witty defenestration" of the incestuous art world with This Garden of Weeds. If you’ve ever suspected the million-dollar art scene is just a reality show with better lighting, he has the receipts.

Zac O’Yeah: The Scandinavian-turned-local legend who has spent 30 years digesting the sub-continent. From Shivajinagar’s slaughterhouses to sipping fenny with Nobel laureates, Zac’s Digesting India is the only travel guide that prioritizes your stomach over your soul.

The Drill:
When:Saturday, 18th April | 7 PM
Where: Goobe’s Book Republic

The Catch: First come, first served. Our floor space is as limited as a "limited edition" print, but significantly more honest.

Show up to discuss why people kill for art and what astronauts drink in space. Or stay home and eat your masala-less curries in silence.

If Russia Wins is not prophecy — it’s a warning.
Empires don’t fall; they wait.
Masala shows how comfort killed courage, how treaties replaced vigilance.
Peace is not given. It’s defended.

Kiran Desai’s The Loneliness of Sonia and Sunny is a slow-burning ache—love, exile, silence stitched into prose that glows like half-lit moons. A return worth the wait. 🌙

Durrell points his lens at beetles & birds; the soil breathes, insects whisper equations, & time stretches like a heron’s wing. Absurd, wondrous, infinite. 🌿📖

The shelf is a test, isn’t it? A crack in the simulation.

📖 And Another Thing (Eoin Colfer) — Hitchhiker’s nostalgia rebooted, a reminder that even comedy is just another system loop we willingly step into.

📖 Dead-End Memories (Banana Yoshimoto) — Tender ghosts haunt kitchens and bedrooms; déjà vu disguised as everyday life, proof the past isn’t “gone,” just running parallel.

📖 Trying to Say Goodbye (Adil Jussawalla) — Poetry as resistance. Each line feels like a wormhole punched through empire and memory. The code of loss, written in fragments.

📖 My Oxford Year (Julia Whelan) — A romance that pretends to be ordinary, but look closer: love here is always a glitch, a rewrite of destiny.

📖 How to Kill Men and Get Away With It (Katy Brent) — Dark comedy as algorithm: input patriarchy, output murder. It’s satire, but the machine says: “This is justice.”

📖 The Safekeep (Yael van der Wouden) — Secrets locked in boxes that don’t stay closed. You think you’re safe? That’s just the dream they’ve sold you.

📖 The Eyes Are the Best Part (Monika Kim) — An eyeball in a mouth. Surveillance devouring itself. The future already told you: you are both the watcher and the consumed.

Reality check: maybe they’re just books. Or maybe they’re warnings disguised as paper. Either way, Goobe’s shelves feel more like prophecy than retail therapy.
