LiGHT-FiSH is a young and vibrant Product Design company based in Auroville Pondicherry. We collaborate with Artists, Designers, Engineers, Entrepreneurs and Architects and provide solutions from the conceptual phase to the final prototype. According to me, prototyping is one of the most important steps when it comes to designing furniture. It helps you evolve the design, account for any modifications before you work on the actual material.

At LiGHT-FiSH we create prototypes using the latest laser technology, 3D printing and CNC (Computer Numeric Control). By using technology, we are able to make changes swiftly and the evolution is instantaneous because we don't end up reworking on an entire full scale model.

It was fun and insightful for me to teach and discuss this with some very engaging students at DOT School of Design.

When we were asked to make a bespoke heirloom chopping board we went for an end grain design as the 1st thought that came to mind was a butcher... the visual memory of a butcher cutting meat on a big wooden end grain trunk. That was the inspiration for this. Multiple end grain blocks coming together to form a cool kaleidoscopic pattern.

Why end grain?

When cutting on an end grain board, your knife stays sharper because you are slicing in between the wood's fibers. And end grain cutting boards are somewhat “self-repairing” because those wood fibers bounce back into place after chopping

What makes these boards stand apart?

These are stronger because of an added support layer through the center which we modified by using epoxy resin to add more character

Nature's design - SOLID WOOD dining table with a metallic gold resin river flow design in the center that's been made to size.

Water proof, not just resistant. Which means it's easy to clean and it won't change shape due to weather.

A beautiful silky matte finish which anyone would be easily drawn to.

Hey, it can also be easily dismantled 🙂
