Last week, our book 'Ellora: Cross-Fertilization of Style in Buddhist, Hindu and Jain Cave Temples' was launched at the Asian Art Museum in San Francisco with an author talk and booking signing

Authors Deepanjana Klein and Arno Klein took the stage offering an expert overview of the magnificent rock-cut cave temples of Ellora, along with an inside look at the challenges and highlights of documenting this extraordinary historic site. A lively Q&A followed.

It was standing room only in the museum's largest auditorium. In the words of an AAMSF trustee, "I have not seen anything like that at a serious lecture at the Asian Art Museum in a long time."

Ellora is now available on our website and through leading online and offline bookstores worldwide.

"A little magic-box-of-a-book." That's how Aman Nath describes Portrait of an Artist in India Today's latest book review.

Photographs by Rohit Chawla, text by Kishore Singh. Sixty-eight Indian artists, without make-up, in full view, shot with Chawla's stark cinematic eye. As Nath puts it, "good art doesn't need marketing explanations in any other language."

The book published in association with KNMA is now available on our website and leading book stores. Click the link in the bio.

"Who keeps the stories of a tribe, keeps its soul."

In the foreword to our book Chola Maati, Paul Abraham (), of Sarmaya Arts Foundation () talks about this "three-part meditation" on the world of the Pardhan Gonds of Patangarh, brought to life through the words of Padmaja (), the soil-pigment paintings of Mayank (), and the photographs of Komal ()

"The Gond perspective on life, reflected in the tribe's legends, is shaped by the abundances of the Narmada valley. The heroes of its epics are often not mystical, otherworldly beings, but the commonplace wonders of its terrain, like the saja tree, the mahua flower, clay from the river's basin."

Printed in association with Somaiya Vidyavihar University (), Chola Maati explores this return to the soil through art, photographs, music and words! Available to buy on our website and in leading bookstores across the country.

Who better to curate a reading list than the man who has spent over four decades putting India's art, craft, and culture into print?

Bipin Shah (), founder of Mapin Publishing, the Ahmedabad house that helped define illustrated book publishing in India, has handpicked five titles from our library that he holds close.

From 'Handmade in India' to 'Raja Ravi Varma', his choices are a love letter to India's visual heritage. Three of these titles, Jali, Incredible Treasures, and India: Art & Culture, are now out of print (Shhh... bringing them back in 2027), making this weekend reading list all the more precious!

Celebrating Rabindranath Tagore's birth anniversary, the story we like to recount from his book is how in 1937, he fell gravely ill and slipped into a coma. He recovered. And the first thing he did on regaining consciousness was paint a landscape. Not rest. Not speak. Paint.

Tagore came to painting late, only in the last two decades of his life. But he believed there are parts of human experience that words cannot reach, that some things must be expressed through lines, colours, sounds, and movements.

Two books worth your time if you want to know Tagore beyond the biography: "Gifts of Solitude" by Ashvin Mehta, with words by Tagore himself and "The Last Harvest: Paintings of Rabindranath Tagore" edited by R. Siva Kumar (currently out of stock). Link in bio.
