Last week I had posted a small sample of my coins from the Surat Mint. Here is a little bigger lot of coins of 11 different date combinations.
This design of the Rupees of Surat in the name of Aurangzeb Alamgir is the 5th different variation that I have come across. It starts some time in RY 23 and then continues unchanged till the end of Aurangzeb's rule.

Would request friends to add different variations of the coins of Surat that they have in their collection so that we can compile a full list of variations of the Surat coinage of Aurangzeb.

Some Rupees of Aurangzeb from Surat. These coins are fairly common but finding these coins which show almost all the legends on the flan are not so easy to find. Look at the coin on the top left. Almost all the border on both sides can be seen.

The 'Shah' Counter Stamped coins of Khambayat / Cambay rarely show the date. Where they do, it is either 19 or at best 194. I have been fortunate to have picked up a coin showing the full date 1942 a few years back and even more lucky to have pickjed up the second one showing the last two digits xx50 (1950).
Would love to see the coins having the full dates or atleast the last two digits of the date from any collections.

Prompted by a post I came across on one of the FB groups, I post here the coins of 4 of the 5 Mughal Emperors bearing the date AH 1131minted at Ahmedabad. No coins of the 5th Emperor - Neku Siyar (the titular Emperor crowned at Akbarabad) issued from the Ahmedabad mint are known. It is worth noting that in the brief reign of 99 days, 2 different types of coins were issued in the name of Rafi ud Darjat from the mint at Ahmedabad.
Here is a brief description of events that unfolded in AH 1131 / 1719 AD - a tremulous year for the Mughals Empire. In a short span of less than 9 months, 4 different Emperors and 1 titular ruler were seen on the Mughal throne.

 Farrukhsiyar (11th January 1713 – 28th February 1719 AD)
 Rafi ud Darajat (28th Feb 1719 – 6th June 1719)
 Nikusiyar (18th May 1719 - 13th August 1719 at Akbarabad).
 Rafi ud Daula (6th June – 17th Sep 1719)
 Muhammad Shah (27th Sep 1719 – 26th Apr 1748)

After the death of Farrukhsiyar on 28th Feb 1719, Rafi ud Darajat was enthroned by the Sayyid brothers. On 18th May 1719 Rafi’s uncle (son of Muhammad Akbar – a grandson of Aurangzeb) Neku Siyar (aka Nikusiyar) supported by his mentor - Birbal (not of Akbar fame) ascended the throne at Agra Fort as he thought he is more eligible to the throne than his nephew. The Sayyid Brothers, King Makers to the Mughal throne at that point in time, took offence and within a brief period of less than three months, Neku Siyar was captured dethroned.

On 6th June 1719 Rafi Ud Darajat died of Tuberculosis at a young age of 19 years. On his request, his elder brother Rafi ud Daula (Shahjahan II) was declared Emperor the same day. Shah Jahan II was coroneted on 8th June at the Lal Qila (Shahjahanabad). Besides being physically & mentally unfit to perform his duties as a ruler, he too, like his brother, suffered from tuberculosis and died on 17th Sept 1719 at Bidyapur near Fatehpur Sikri.

The all powerful Sayyid Brothers then nominated Muhammad Shah, one of the grandsons of Shah Alam Bahadur as the next Emperor on 27th Sep 1719. He was coroneted at the Lal Qila, Shahjahanabad on 29th Sept 1719 at the tender age of 16 under the strict supervision of the Sayyid Brothers.
Thus in a short span of less than 9 months, Five emperors ascended the Mughal Throne.

Ilahi type square rupees (with Month) of Ahmedabad were first introduced in Ilahi 38 and continued for a very short period of about one year or so. This makes it a total of about 13 odd months.
I have been trying to put together a collection of all these months.

I have been able to to collect 9 months of the possible 13 or so. Hope I will be able to get the balance 4 or so missing months soon.

Ilahi type square rupees (with Month) of Ahmedabad were introduced in Ilahi 38.
These Rupees, all dated Ilahi 38, Month: Mihr show the month written in three different ways - all in a space of one month.

I was wondering if this is a feature seen in any other mint?
