Oil or wax candles?
The lighting of Hanukkah menorah is in announcing a miracle that happened at Maccabee times that initiated Hanukkah celebration. The miracle happened with small amount of oil that did not end for eight days. Because of this reason oil is preferable to announce the miracle. However, wax candles are widely used for centuries as well as oil candles. We have menorahs for oil and wax candles. Choose the one of your choice.

Advice
The candles should light at least half an hour. The small candles might light a little less time but the time of lightening might be extended if the candles are stored in a freezer for at least an hour before lightening.
