We're turning the page on what could be the most exciting chapter in our story so far. 📖

We are absolutely thrilled to share that The Book Centre has been shortlisted for the Elavon Retail Excellence Ireland Awards 2026 in the National Retailer of the Year category! 🎉

This recognition means so much to us. It reflects years of dedication, hard work, and a genuine passion for books, reading, and serving our communities.
From busy days in our stores to planning events, recommending great reads, supporting local authors, and creating welcoming spaces for book lovers of all ages, every part of the journey has led us here.

This achievement belongs to our incredible team, whose enthusiasm, knowledge, and commitment make The Book Centre what it is. Their hard work, day in and day out, is at the heart of everything we do.

We are also deeply grateful to our customers and communities across the country. Thank you for choosing to shop with us, attend our events, share your love of reading, and support independent Irish bookselling. Your loyalty and encouragement mean the world to us.

To be recognised alongside some of Ireland's finest retailers is a tremendous honour, and we're so proud to be representing the book industry on a national stage.

We have a brilliant talk taking place in The Well this Saturday, June 13th 🧡

At the heart of Independent Bookshop Week is a celebration of reading and the joy that books can bring.
Through conversations with parents, grandparents, and guardians in our Children's Department, we know the challenges that dyslexia can present for young readers.

While it can be a barrier, it should never stand in the way of a child becoming a happy, confident, and lifelong reader.

To support families on that journey, we're delighted to welcome three wonderful members of the Dyslexia Tutors Waterford, who will share their experiences, insights and practical guidance.

Independent Bookshop Week begins this Saturday, June 13th. This year, we have been selected as one of IBW's Bookshop Champions! This is a huge honour for our store 🧡 And we are taking our role seriously!

We have curated a week of free events for you, our wonderful community, utilising the fantastic spaces we have within The Book Centre. The Book Bar, The Well & The Children's Department, will all come alive during this special week.

We look forward to welcoming you, and together, making this a week to remember!

We have some exciting news to share this week! The Book Centre has been named a Bookshop Champion for Independent Bookshop Week 2026 🧡💫

"The Booksellers Association is delighted to announce that The Book Centre in Waterford, County Waterford has been selected as one of 20 Bookshop Champions for Independent Bookshop Week 2026, taking place from Saturday 13th to Saturday 20th June across Ireland and the UK.

The Bookshop Champions will represent the independent bookselling sector’s renowned innovation, community impact, and commitment to reading for pleasure throughout the Independent Bookshop Week 2026 campaign. 

The 20 Bookshop Champions were selected through an open submission process across the Booksellers Association membership. The final group reflects the breadth and depth of independent bookshops today, and the shared values and strengths that underpin the sector: encouraging reading for pleasure, bringing people together around books, connecting online audiences with in-shop experiences and building strong local partnerships that benefit their communities."

Independent Bookshop Week 2026 marks 20 years of celebrating the incredible role independent bookshops play in bringing people together, providing local hubs for the creative industries, and inspiring a love of reading across Ireland and the UK.

We are honoured to be one of the champions on this very special year!

These are some of the books we discussed- we also talked about Pillars of the Earth, Girl With a Dragon Tattoo , Paper Girl by Beth Macy and a Prayer for Owen Meaney by John Irving.
