What an absolutely astonishing donation. This FIRST EDITION copy of Moscow Tram Stop is the first hand account of the author, Dr Heinrich Haape. Drafted into the German Army during WWII, he battled to save the lives of his fellow soldiers on the Eastern Front - what many historians consider to have been the most brutal theatre of the war. Under-equipped and besieged by the ravages of the Russian Winter, this account is as brutal as it is gripping.

Captured by the Americans at the end of the war, he ended up in a POW camp in the south of France - practically Butlins, compared to Stalingrad! Once the war was finished, he soon grew bored with the life of a simple doctor, and proceeded to move to South Africa, married a classically trained Singer, and began a new career composing Operas. (As you do.)

This is life, in his words. A Primary Source in every sense of the phrase, we have been quoted a significant valuation for this book - no doubt due to it being rare, a First Edition, and still being in possession of its dust jacket. You can pick it up at Oxfam Malahide for €150 - a piece of history at a bargain price.
