Hey, James here.
At Quinlan’s Gifts we love discovering new creative Irish makers and small businesses. Most of the time we find them at home. But every now and then you bump into one halfway up a mountain in Mallorca.
A few years ago I was hiking in Mallorca and got talking to a guy who turned out to be from Cork. Not just Cork, but Ballyvourney, up the road from where I grew up.
Peadar had lived in San Francisco for years before ending up here in Mallorca. And recently, he and his Italian friend Mattia went and did something brave - they launched a drinks business from scratch.
It’s called Poquet. They do a selection of seltzers, canned cocktails, and more. They spent over a year getting it off the ground - sourcing equipment, setting up a brewery, perfecting the recipes, doing all the unglamorous work that comes with setting up a business.
Today after a hike in the Tramuntana I stopped into a local café and there they were on the shelf. Officially launched.
I cracked one open. Genuinely lovely - refreshing, well made, and the label design is spot on 💦
Wishing Peadar and the Póquet team every success. And who knows - Poquet might even make it to Cork pubs some day 🙌🏼
