They just don't walnut veneer like this anymore. I love how it moves.

NOTE TO SELF: DO NOT TOUCH

This Bechstein is from 1870, just 17 years after Carl Bechstein founded the company. It was built before Germany was even a country.

Now 156 years old, it has been beautifully re-pinned, restrung, and reconditioned. Pianos of this age rarely appear in this kind of condition.
It is overstrung and underdamped too, which was still unusual at the time.

And it sounds glorious. I love every bit of it.
I’m not going to touch this one. Some instruments don’t need to be improved. They just need some free time and a stool.

I fell in love with this felt piano in Berlin last year and sent it back to Ireland. It's one of the most beautifully sounding instruments I've had the chance to play. The sound is brilliant, yet subtle and muted, reminding me that sometimes less is indeed more?
