Just back last night after the Irish Fly Fair over the weekend at the Fulling Mill Stand, we had a great event! It was lovely to meet up with so many people again, old friends and new ones, thanks to everyone who called to us. A big shout out to the guys who manned the stand for us, Jackie Mahon , Mike Keady and Mike Shanks. A great job was done, some lovely flies tied and on hand to help out with any enquiries about the range of materials and the new stuff. Also a big shout out to George Burdess and Jason O Riordan who joined us on the stand for some fly tying outside the Lough Style range, fair play to the lads.
Thanks to Stevie Munn and all the IFF team, the event was run brilliantly and ran off super smoothly.
Hope to see you all again next year.

The latest video that Jackie Mahon and myself did with Patrick Tillard for Fulling Mill was shot this time last year on Sheelin and has just been released. We had great craic making it but it also shows as well that the wild loughs don't always play ball.
Hope you enjoy it!

In this video we travel to Ireland to fly fish on the famous Lough Sheelin with Jackie Mahon and Tom 'Doc' Sullivan. Sheelin is known as a low density lough,...

I haven't been out much myself this year as I have been busy so I was delighted to end up getting out yesterday for a day's fishing myself. The Cornamona club ran their annual Hospice event yesterday, I hadn't planned to fish but as the floating/reserve angler, I had to sit in at the last minute and ended up having a lovely day.
I got to fish with Andrew Kelly and we had a great day out, and while neither of us and our teams threatened the eventual winners, we had some great sport with missed chances and moved a lot of fish. We both had cracking fish. I had a beauty of 50 cm on my second cast in the morning. I thought I might have been in for a shot for the biggest fish of the day but Andrew put paid to that with a beauty of 52 cm straight after lunch and as it turned out was pipped for the biggest fish by 1 cm. He added to that with one of 35 cm shortly afterwards. He was in hard luck in the last hour when he hooked into a bigger fish than his 52 cm but unfortunately it found a clump of weeds and that put paid to landing him.

It was a great day for a great cause and here is a link to the report on the match on the Cornamona Anglers page.

Here are a few pics of some of the Duckfly catches from this year. While the fishing was sometimes patchy and conditions were not ideal a lot of the time, we still had some good action, when the stars aligned.
The hatch itself was decent this year so when the fish did come on it could be good. At the start of the hatch, it was really a case of getting a window of an hour or two during the day when they came on and making the most of it when they did. Buzzers were the key method accounting for all the fish below. The quality of the fish was excellent with some nice fish caught. Some days saw the bigger fish turn up, others saw the more average sized trout active. It is nice to see a spread of different sizes. With the Duckfly as good as over now we await the Olives and the Campto.

So saddened to learn of the passing of John Gierach. His books gave me untold enjoyment over the years.
Here is the link to one of the highlights of my involvement with the Ireland on the Fly podcasts where we got to interview the great man. May he rest in peace.

Big shout out to the guys at Allt-Flyfishing George Gillespie and Jim Crawford for getting us sorted with our smaller Peli boxes for our recent trip to the Orkneys. The smaller box is much handier than our bigger ones as we didn't need all our gear. However you do need a range of lines for the Orkneys so the spool holders the guys made were excellent, this left the rest of the box with ample room for the rest of the stuff we needed for the Orcadian trout.
Three of us got these done and they were brilliant, really handy for specific trips like this one.
Well done guys, thanks!
