Heartbroken we are to share the news of Johns sudden passing.
It will never be the same here again without John. He lit the place up at a time we weren’t sure where we were going with it and brought a new life to the shop. Not a more trustworthy, caring, honest and professional man would you find. He had a way with customers I’ve never seen before or won’t see again, be they 5, 22 or 90 years old he had a word for them all was able to make them all feel welcome. You could tell how highly regarded he was by them too. He took pride in seeing them return and loved chatting with them. Especially his loyal customers from his many years in the River Restaurant.
On a daily basis John spoke so fondly of all his family, his beloved husband Aidan, his nieces and nephews, brothers and sisters, extended family and friends. He told many stories of his dear mother and father and days of old. He loved a recount of his holidays away too and weekends in Dublin and you would look forward to the weekly catch up. He would never forget to ask about us too and our families and how everyone was and if we’d any concerns about anything he would be going to the church on his walk home to light a few candles. A man of great faith.
He was someone you could confide in and discuss anything with from personal to business issues and was often the first person we would go to for advice or to share news with be it personally or work related. He became more like family to us than a friend or work colleague.
He won’t be hard to replace, he just won’t be replaced because you won’t find another like John.
We will be closed on Monday as a mark of respect to John and his family and would like to pass on our deepest condolences to Aidan, Mag and all of Johns extended family and friends.
Kieran, Frank and all the staff💔
