INTRODUCING SPINDOCK……..
Delighted to be the first retailer to stock The ‘revolutionary’ 😆 record cleaner that is Spindock. The brainchild of Volume Records’ customer, Ed Ryan, Spindock is an affordable and easy solution to cleaning your vinyl. Simple operation and terrific results and all for the bargain price of €35. In store now so come in a see it in operation, and you’ll definitely be taking one home! I’ve been using my prototype for weeks now.

You may (or may not) have seen our latest video where I flew over to Ireland chasing one specific record — Still Life on Vertigo.

But while I was there, something completely unexpected happened… While Edward was taking me to some of his local favourite shops, the super rare and sought after Irish folk album Swaddling Songs by Mellow Candle was there — and we brokered a deal.

Now, Mellow Candle – Swaddling Songs isn’t just any record. It’s one of THE most sought-after albums from the early 70s. I never even contemplated owning one. It’s the Irish folk-prog masterpiece from 1972 on the Deram label — made by a group of Irish teenagers blending haunting harmonies, poetic lyrics and these hypnotic, pastoral arrangements.

It sold barely anything at the time, the band disappeared soon after, and for decades it was just a whisper among collectors. But over the years it’s become one of the holy grails of progressive folk. Originals hardly ever turn up, and when they do, they’re usually discoloured, stained and seen better days.

Finding an original in Ireland — their home turf — made it even more special. When Edward pointed out the sleeve sitting there, I couldn’t quite believe I was in a position to buy one. It was even signed by Alison Williams who was in the band, just aged 17! We chatted, brokered a deal, and that was that.

One of the most exciting moments I’ve ever had out hunting.

Seeing that Deram label spinning on my turntable for the first time back home was unreal. The sound, the story, the rarity — it’s everything I love about record collecting.
